There isn't enough room here to list perfumes that are not worth the hype to me. I agree with all your choices except Shalimar. I will never ever understand the hype behind Delina, it's the worst I've ever smelled. I also think Middle Eastern perfumes are overhyped. SOTD is Babycat. LOVED this video, thanks!

Agree 100% on Chanel 5, Delina and Libre, while Shalimar... one of the best perfumes ever made imo. To me it's so beautiful that it literally makes me teary when I smell it, like beautiful music or piece of art.

I agree. It makes my eyes roll. I am always mesmerized anew when I spray it. I forget how beautiful it really is until I spray it again. It’s an absolute masterpiece and withstood the tooth of time for a reason.

I think a lot of hyped up fragrances are ok, but just not for the prices. Example: Guidance and Delina. They are beautiful, but not worth their prices.

Shalimar is the absolute queen of the night. Nothing compares to it. It’s pure seduction in a bottle. None of her flankers can measure up to this gem.

I totally agree with you about Delina and Chanel. The only line i like from Chanel is their Chance line. Another perfume that is hyped to me is Black Opium. I have tried the original and some flankers and none of them work with my skin chemistry. I wanted to love it, but it's a no for me 😂

I love the OG libre edp. On me It smells like a clean fragrance that isn’t lemony and lasts all day. And I feel like the boss in it. 😂 The 2 fragrances that I really don’t understand the hype are the delinas (actually the entire house of marley) and alien. And yes for delina it’s not the litchi that’s the problem it’s that heavy smell. I can’t stand it. I do understand why alien is adored but it’s too much for me.

I was in my late teens when I smelled Channel no 5 on a magazine flap and was entranced. I loved everything about it. I want to try leau for a fresh version to wear in the Spring. I think perfumes that are not worth the hype are Angel and Hypnotic Poison. I literally involuntarily gagged with Angel. I was shocked I had such a visceral reaction😮 I think it was the ‘dirty’ patchouli. Poison smelled like straight play-doh.

I think it’s just that u don’t like the strong florals or patchoulis. Personally angel elixir, and alien goddess, is really mass appealing and generic. Not really worth the price, when there’s cheaper alternatives that have those same DNAs

There are a number of fragrances that seem to get a lot of love and hype that I don’t like, with the top one being Valaya. The scent profile is nice, but I find the aldehydes in it headache inducing. There are others in this category I enjoy much more.

Ok😁Don't be offended, but...I can't stand these 3 . Overhyped! 1. Chanel Chance edp 2. D & G Light Blue 3. Jo Malone wood sage & sea salt. 😛😛😛 Nope, not for me. PS I also.. .strongly believe... that most Chanel fragrances are overhyped & in my opinion if they did not have the Chanel name... & gorgeous bottles....people would say they stink. Lol😁 Some note in them does not work for me. I have tried to like Chanel. I prefer Dior

Arlene our tastes are so similar. Lol. I also am not a fan of Chanel No. 5. Way too many aldehydes maybe ? and way too strong and old fashioned smelling. I was so excited when I first got Shalimar, only to realize I couldn’t take the bitter animatic leather mixed with that citrus cleaner smell. Reminded me of Pledge furniture polish. I hate that I feel that way but I do. Also Delina is nice but I never reach for it. It’s good for what it is, but I guess I expected so much more by the time I got it. And honestly the few times I’ve worn it were mostly because I thought others might like it. (Due it to being so popular.) I could easily go without it. I’ve never cared for Libre esp. I got the Intense version, and the Le Parfum as well, and while both are decent, neither were loves as I just can’t get past the orange blossom. It doesn’t work for me and I have to accept that. Actually the only time I’ve loved a perfume that has a prominent amount of orange blossom is Love Dont Be Shy. I guess they put enough marshmallow inthere that I didn’t mind that flower. Lol. Sintra (which is very similar) wasn’t bad either, but I liked it less because I could smell more of the orange blossom. Btw I blind bought a used bottle Shalimar Tonka last year or the year before and I ADORE it. I wasn’t suprised of course. Take out the citrus and leather and it’s everything I like. Lol. Oh and for last Christmas I blind bought a bottle of Shalimar Iris for Christmas, and no surprise I love it too. So good!!! I love Iris and orris so I figured it was a can’t miss. Which reminds me I’ve got to get another decant of Iris Malikhan. That perfume is so underrated, and great for Iris lovers, and I miss it a lot! It’s so unique with the creamy kulfi added. Love!! And of all the decants I got for Christmas, there’s 2 I used up that I will 100% be getting more of, and that’s Vanilla Barka by Amouage and Althair by Parfums de Marly. Omg those scents are incredible. I couldn’t get enough, and they’re super strong. Although my husband said Vanilla Barka smelled like vanilla musk baby powder. I was so offended. Lol. Like “how dare you!!?? This is quality perfume!!!!” 😂😂😂

So agree on Libre. I smell it on other diners when I go out to eat at restaurants so often. I feel like I can taste their perfume. L’Absolu and Flowers & Flames are much better! Le Parfum is nicer but not my taste.

Chanel no5 is something you have to explore. The extrait or body products might be your thing. They all smell different.

Hi! I just sold my bottle of Shalimar!😂😂 I liked the smell in the cap, but I just can’t wear it. I think it’s the amount of leather. Whatever it is, it’s a no. 😊 I’ve never tried Chanel no.5. It scares me! 😂

When I see these top selling, most popular fragrances, I often think, my nsense of smell must be "broken" somehow, or I must perceive them differently, because I hate them with passion, I wouldn 't wear them if someone paid me for it.. Shalimar, Chanel No.5 a lot of deep elegant and oftentime "scents called masterpiece" are a total scrubbers for me :-/

Lol, I would have also picked Delina, only because it is not ground breaking in my opinion for the hype it gets, not because I wouldn't wear it or just do not like it, and personally, I wouldn't wear it. Chanel No 5 and Shalimar on the other hand, are classics and they need to be smelled if you collect classics or perfume in general I think. You do not need to love them, but they have a history and if they are hyped now, it is for a good reason. Just look at the obsession with vanilla perfumes today. We owe some of that to Shalimar I would argue. I think appreciation is different than not liking or wearing a perfume, hyped or not. I remember when Angel came out and was all the rage, still is for many. I never cared for it but it was ground breaking at the time for the use of sweet and lots of patchouli. It set the tone for many perfumes that came after. SOTD Papillon Artisan Parfums Dryad (sample). Now adays I hold back when the community is going gaga over a perfume because let's be real, very few are that different to deserve it. Thank you for your thoughts!

In my 50+ years I have rarely found anyone that truly smells lovely in Chanel No.5 - I think a lot of it is due to the fact that just about everyone oversprays the heck out of it.

Ahhhh, yes, Delina, I have tried to like it too. In fact, I've tried several dupes to see if they work on my skin and nope, nope, nope. It smells horrible on me - a big fat sour, fermented rose 😛 I don't even like the flankers. No. 5 is another that I don't like to wear either, it's dated to me, a bit soapy. It reminds me of women of my mother's generation and also fur coats and suede cosmetic bags. My favorite No. 5 is L'Eau as well. Though Shalimar I love very much. The dry down is just rich and lush on me. I love all the flankers too, and I have a lot of them 😍😍 Millesime Iris is nice. Maybe it's the civety accord in it that doesn't work for you?? It works for me but I know it's a very polarizing quality. I like the Libre's too - not as much a love as the Shalimar's, and yeah overhyped, but I do like them and I especially like to layer with them, very harmonious with other fragrances. A current fragrance that I feel is overhyped is Kayali Vanilla Candy Rock Sugar and it's Paris Corner dupe Khair Confection. I have both and they are underwhelming for me, they dry down to just a bland, sweet candylike vanilla, nothing to write home about..... maybe I'm just not jazzed about that kind of notes profile?? Could be, and it could be that Kayali is just not my house. The only ones that are lovely on my skin and love are Vanilla Royale and Lovefest. I will be destashing both Rock Sugar and Confection.

Erba Pura, smells after some minutes like burnt tires on my skin. I don't like Baccarat Rouge 540 either, I'm the one who smells only band aid or hospital instead of sugar.

No5 is maybe a classic but is it hyped? I dont hear anyone about it tbh, nowadays isnt it considered a bit of an oldfashioned scent? Its difficult to tell what is hyped (and overhyped) at the moment i think its Bianco Latte, which i think smells exactly like Lush Let the good times roll, i really dont want to smell like buttered popcorn, so thats not really my scent. A while ago ofcourse BR 540 was overhyped but I actually like that scent. And now ofcourse, here in the Netherlands, the 'Eau de Tompouce' is (over)hyped, but its really a nice scent! 😄 Its sweet and soft, reminds me of something from the 80's-90's, a soft teenage scent but quite nice! I dont really care for Delina and Libre but i think they are just not my taste, i dont consider them overhyped though.

No.5 smells lovely in its purest form and just gets worse as it’s diluted. When I worked at the Chanel counter people would smell the extrait and then ask for the EDP or EDT to save money (thinking it would smell the same but have a little less longevity) and I’d tell them they were better off finding a different fragrance altogether in their price range, because trying to replicate No.5 specifically doesn’t work that way.

IMO skin chemistry is important in perfumery. YSL Libre is one case. The flankers I've tried are suffocatingly vanilla on me but the original works. A lot of niche perfumes and now designer perfumes are ridiculously overpriced these days. Why? How can they justify them? One overhyped perfume IMO is Chanel Mademoiselle. I know it's a fan favourite but I don't like it. Too much citrus and patchouli for me, as it smells bitter on my skin. BTW, what lipstick are you wearing? It's lovely on you.

You mentioned Chanel No5 EDP and called it the original but it isn’t the original, it’s a flanker and it came out in 1986 so it resembles that decade. The original is the No5 parfum, or sometimes called Extrait. That’s the original and it came out in 1921! ☺️ You should try it, it’s softer, sits closer on the skin than the EDP. Chanel no5 and all its flankers are a journey for sure!

Musc Noir is fantastic. SOTD Blondine by Frassai. Delina is a big no for me, but I love No 5. I have it in every flanker / concentration. Oh and Libre is awful. I actually can’t stand that one at all!

Totally disagree, the title is wrong! It should be "not my type of perfumes" or " I do not understand these perfumes". Chanel N 5 is a masterpiece, also Shalimar. It might be disliked by some for many reasons like bad connotations with people we do not like, notes which we do not tolerate or simply poor perception. Also, you mentioned something animalic in them, yes they do contain natural ingredients that might give this type of perception. Majority of new fragrances are synthetic these days.
