Reis from Cranberry Alarm Ri3D demonstrates Note game piece interactions with the AM14U5 Chassis and 1" and 2" bumper heights. 1" had promising results but did damage the Note while the 2" bumper height resulted in stuck Note pieces.

I think an under bumper intake is completely viable, just need to modify a chassis a bit

Agree, I think it is a big advantage over an extending intake because less joints, less motors and less parts outside the robot changing the center of weight.

Our reason for going with an over the bumper intake is because it makes it much easier for the drivers. Under the bumper intake implies that you're going to get the majority of your robot over top of the Note. Notes against the wall are especially tricky to get to with under the bumper. - Cory from Cranberry Alarm

They can be 4.5in tall, so that leaves 3in space under (a bit less with fabric+tolerance)

You can use 2.25" bumpers (see the game manual's bumper section, anywhere from 2.25 to 2.75 works), so a little bit less than 3" off the ground is possible

@@malhamon9107 Noodle sizes of as small as 2.125" are ok this year, but the minimum backing board size is 4.5" which will be what controls the minimum bumper height. (R408) If you squeeze right in at 4.5" placed right at 7.5" you have nominal clearance of 3", but 2.75" is probably about the best you can practically achieve w/o excessive worrying during robot inspection (see alphamu0's comment)
