One thing to warn about, as I wrecked my 14 month old HP this way, is that dealing with those tiny and very fiddly screws, the slightest wobble can mean one rolls away from the hole and touches the motherboard. There is power running through it with the battery in place, and in my case, this resulted in a few tiny sparks. I hoped they were of no significance but when assembled the laptop wouldn't even power on. I took it to a repairer for an opinion (not a full.check, for which I'd have had to pay, I just wanted an idea of cost). I was told that it was very likely that the screw has shorted the motherboard and, as a result may have also damaged other components. As a having a new board fitted would likely cost at least half the price of a new laptop even if nothing else needed replacing, it was basically a write off. The old detachable batteries were far more convenient!

Thank you so much for the warning; this is now the main thing stopping me from a potentially disastrous DIY....
