This is great! I would cut a piece of paper to size and sketch on the general layout I was looking at so I could see what it was like to write on. One thing to keep in mind is that Japan has different B sizing than the international standard (the A sizes are the same). The difference is minor, but Japanese B paper is a bit taller and wider than ISO. In B5 and B6 (the most common planner sizes), the Japanese paper is less than 1 cm longer and taller than ISO - not much, but enough to notice that there's a slight size difference.

In Europe, we use the DIN A, B and C standards. One easy thing to remember is that the sizes are duplicates of each other. For example, 2 x A6 is A5, 2 x A5 is A4. 2 x A4 is A3 (or 4 x A5). It’s a very simple system. A0 being the largest (16 x A4). Wire gauges are similar, the higher the number is, the thinner the wire will be.

Thanks for a really clear explanation of the A and B paper sizes. We tend to use the A sizes here in Europe and the B paper sizes are the standard used in Japan. I love the variety and choice available with my current favourite which is a B6 slim which is such a dinky little notebook.

😢 Thank you soooooooooo much this was so frustrating for me when I go get a note book and come back to notice they’re not at all the same….. it frustrated me because if it looked good aesthetically (plain Jane) I’d just grab it. Just received a couple notebooks in the mail from a family member (They know me so well). At first glance they all looked different (7 notebooks)…. It didn’t phase me till later…. When I packed them on my travels…. They began to have prominent issues in terms of fitting them in my messenger bag and struggled to fit some of their corners and sometimes the notebooks themselves. Long story short…. I was stumped on what was the big ordeal of sizes…. You hit the nail right on the head for me. Now i understand. All I knew in the means of paper sizes at best was “Legal” as in legal pads…. And poster boards XD…… now Ill be wise as to ask about the sizes next time I jet to grab a new notebook…… Again thank you so much

Wow, you did a wonderful job! Thank you so much for making and sharing this. I came here for comparo of A5 with B5, didn't think I would last 23 minutes, but I enjoyed all of it. Just wonderfully exhaustive visual examples of how the sizes compare to each other, exactly what i needed. I myself am looking for B5 ring binder to start making cooking recipes collection. I have all kindsa notebooks in different size from Moleskine, Dingbats, Leuchturm... but the binding intimidates me! I need loose leaves so I can reorganize. I haven't really found any decent B5 binder yet, but this vid helped me determine I just need to keep looking. Thank you again. Subscribing!
