its because the average gamer does not give a shit about a webcam. It's not a professional device, it's not made for meetings etc. it's made for gamers. all these slight upgrades cost money and will end up making the device cost even more, even though the target customer does not give a shit. if you want a laptop with a good webcam, buy one that is meant for having your online meetings etc. if you want this performance but also a webcam, you're not the target customer, buy an external webcam.

I bought the 4090 SKU of this laptop and I've mostly loved it. I'm coming from a mid-2019 Razer Blade 15 Advanced with the i7-9750H, 2080 Max-Q and 4K OLED display. I limited myself to laptops with Mini-LED displays, as I didn't want to be losing so much coming from OLED, and at least I gained concerning maximum brightness, refresh rate and G-Sync support. I would recommend it to pretty much anyone other than someone who really needs their gaming laptop to blend in with a work environment. I'm glad I didn't cast aside all my bad experiences and go with Razer again.

How well does G-Sync work on this? Is it fully supported or just G-Sync compatible?
@DriftEJ20
@DriftEJ20 11 ай бұрын
@@Phil8719 I'm not sure what the difference is in practice. I know that the difference used to be that actual G-Sync displays had additional G-Sync hardware installed, like some Nvidia proprietary module, and I think there used to be a bigger delta in features between actual G-Sync displays and G-Sync Compatible, but that was back when VRR was in its infancy. As far as I'm aware, the display is just G-Sync Compatible. Can't imagine it'd be space or economically viable to have a module installed on a laptop internal display. You can do G-Sync in both SDR and HDR, you can use Nvidia's G-Sync indicator, you can use it in both Exclusive Fullscreen only or with windowed apps also. Not sure what else there is? I think Reflex also basically superseded some of the benefits of the G-Sync hardware.

Love the laptop. Mine has DDR5 5600MHz from factory, and it is running at that speed (manufacturing date 12/2023 so a late model). What is a quite annoying, is the SSD led, which is a simple fix, two screws on the back on both sides, a little work with the guitar pick and a little black tape solves the problem. I miss the numpad, used to a more cramped Lenovo Legion keyboard with a numpad, so have a few mistypes. But it is nice to type on. Love a good keyboard. The display has no light bleed (240Hz), it´s nice, there are few preset options in the Armory crate. Surprisingly it has enough umph even in silent mode and Robocop Rogue city maxed out on native resolution run´s 70-80 FPS without DLSS (I have a Arc A770LE in my desktop occupied nonstop by my son, and I must say that XeSS looks better than DLSS on quality). In performance mode it goes over 120 FPS, but is is noticeably louder. Not too much but loud in comparison to my older Legion 5. The second thing is, that God knows why, Advanced Optimus is not enabled by default. Had to do it manually according the the ASUS FAQ . So you loose a ton of performance and it stutters. I like the more or less clean design. I am more conservative side and until now had only Lenovo laptops, which are great but got to expensive. With these specs I paid 2450€,for a Lenovo I would have to pay 3200€. So it was a question of price performance. This is a very nice laptop.

That's a great deal you got on this machine. I needed to upgrade from my lenovo ideapad gtx 1650 2019. @@godiananyanwu5894 I have the Strix G16 not the Scar 16. The only real difference is the mini led display and some RGB. But the Scar costs 3200 euro. I also upgraded from Lenovo AMD 4600h and rtx2060 2020. The performance difference between the 4080 and 4090 is like 8-10%. Not worth the extra money. Well Lenovo is Lenovo. So more premium and better build quality. Asus is more the budget friendly manufacturer with compromises. It can have some coil whine, mine has. But mine is not bad. But I read about cases when people returned it. I also read about Lenovo etc. to have coil whine too. So it is a lottery, and the question of how sensitive your hearing is. Well, it takes a lot of juice under load and showing a desktop CPU, into such a small form factor has its price. The i9 gen 9 is beautiful.

@@NotebookcheckReviews additionally the mentioned model also has a 16", 1920x1200, 142ppi, 165Hz, non-glare, IPS, 7ms, 100% sRGB, NVIDIA G-Sync display, which seems worse on first glance, because you will lose pixel density (it will be still high enough) & a few Hz though on second though this gaming notebook will have an even longer battery life & the lower display resolution will give you less headache in regards to VRAM usage in the future where 12GB might not be enough for 1440p/1600p AAA gaming at some point. In my point of view in many triple AAA titles you won't be able to reach 240 Hz in 1600p even today with this hardware anyway. Though for content creation I'd keep the great 1600p screen of the tested model here.

After six months of comprehensive research, I have uncovered an outstanding laptop that excels in both high-end gaming and VR gaming. This selection consistently delivers exceptional performance, and I confidently endorse its capabilities. It's worth noting that laptops often face rapid heat buildup due to limited space for heat dissipation. However, with the implementation of a laptop cooler, particularly the llano, temperatures can be decreased from 95°C to 70°C on ultra settings, a truly impressive outcome.

I think there might be a mistake in the editing of the video, as it doesn't seem like the built-in microphone audio was used in the brief test you showed. That, or this has a studio-grade built-in mic? Thank you for adding a speaker sample! They sound a bit "thin". On to the device, wow, Asus does near magic on taming Intel, nearly ten hours of battery life! And it doesn't look like there is any meaningful amount of performance left on the table. Not excessively thick, a tame 2.3 kg, an actually decent screen (unlike the Gigabyte, which is definitely compromised on the very low brightness). Exceptional package but for the chassis. I can easily forgive a plastic chassis if it's hundreds of dollars less than the competition, but the written review leads me to believe it's not a particularly high quality one. Coil whine is a bit worrying. Honestly, if it wasn't for the ridiculously good battery life it has, the most impressive thing would be how well behaved the fans sound. The Furmark test on 160 W was *incredibly* quiet, as was Cyberpunk. This three fan layout is doing wonders for Asus. There is one thing that I will have to disagree a bit with you though, in that while yes, 16 GB is a bit underwhelming for this price point, it's slotted RAM instead of soldered. You can usualy upgrade it far more cheaply than buying a capacity upgrade from the manufacturer usually costs. Maybe we got too used to seeing soldered memory, but it's a delight to see replaceable sticks come back again. It's not only great for upgradability, but also repairability and thus, sustainability. Also, shout out to the written review. I've checked it out, and for some reason, it seems better than usual. More opinionated, perhaps? I can't pinpoint why, but I liked it better than most previous ones.

Hi Igor, Thank you, as always, for taking the time for your thorough assessment! :) You are right about the webcam test. For some reason, the Strix did not pick up what I was saying even tho the internal mic had been working a few minutes before. I must have hit the mute button or something. I wanted to add a note in the video, but I must honestly say ... I forgot ;) I really like what Asus is doing with its performance profiles. You can easily adjust everything to your exact use case. Pretty well done! You are of course, right with the RAM situation, you should get it with 32 right from the start in this price range, even if the upgrade is not that much after all. The amazon link I added showed a 32 GB config with a MiniLED screen for 2900$. So maybe just our review sample came with 16GB. I will forward your kind words about the written review to my colleague!

I had this for about a week before i returned it. Build is subpar for the money, RGB everywhere, terrible miniLED screen blooming, coil whine, loud. The gaming laptop stereotypes fit here perfectly and it is not good.
@NotebookcheckReviews
@NotebookcheckReviews Жыл бұрын
You will always get blooming with a MiniLED panel. Asus lets you toggle the backlight to mimic a traditional single-zone screen. Which gets rid of the blooming when you do not need HDR or additional brightness.

I returned mine too. The laptop itself was good for my use case (not gaming, data science), but the keyboard was just awful. Travel is good, the problem is that you couldn't distinguish the keys. With RGB off is even worse. Just unacceptable for the price. Pity, because I really liked everything else in the machine, and performance was great in all applications I tested.

@bugbuster8598
@bugbuster8598 Жыл бұрын
@@nemesis7884 if I recall correctly, previous models had motherboard placed properly. Why is that relevant, you ask? Well, let's say that you bought a cheaper lower-spec version of it. With, let's say, 16GB of RAM in a single stick. You play with it for some time and you enjoy it, but you realise you could gain significant performance boost in many games if you had additional 16 GB RAM stick to make it 32 total or even 2x8GB sticks for dual channel. You buy RAM, unscrew the bottom cover and... uh oh, you gotta remove the WHOLE motherboard! With all important and fragile components that you cannot replace, since they are soldered. THIS is why turning motherboard upside down is a terrible idea with no pros whatsoever - it doesn't really improve cooling, make laptop lighter or thinner or anything. Instead, it essentially blocks a significant amout of users from what's left for laptops to upgrade by blocking it with the most crucial components of a laptop that can be easily damaged. From what I remember, the only thing you can change without unscrewing whole thing into pieces is the WiFi card, so you couldn't even expand you drive space with new SSD if you want to😂 Edit: don't get me wrong, I actually think it could've been one of the best laptops on the market! But with fuckups like this on the Acer side and usually poor wuality of materials used, I'm not convinced.

How come it become more affordable than other 4080? its one of the most expensive with mediocre build quality. at 2300 USD you can get Legion Pro 7i with i9 32GB and 4080. Thats Strix is asking 600 USD more money without any real advantage. currently the Legion Pro 7i even with its downgrades compared to gen 7 is bang for the back MUST BUY 4080 laptop at 2300 USD!

Looks like all non hx with J0 die are still alder lake chips repurposed and only the hx chips are raptor lake. And h series also has a beefier 96 iris xe igpu which are more power hungry and hx has only 32. I think it comes to the 13980hx chip. All the hx laptops I've seen this year have battery life upwards of 7 hours. Only asus uses 13980hx. + the ips display should help which some models with hx chips have either 4k or mini led.
