When it comes to premium performance notebooks that have you covered for many different use cases, the Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i was already one of the best options when it was first introduced in 2023.
The updated Meteor Lake model for this year takes the same overall formula but improves quite a few areas that have been problematic before.

I bought one with RTX 4060 and 32GB, teal green and matte mini-LED. Added a 4TB Samsung 990pro to the second ssd slot, and it's my dream travel content creation companion. Yes it creaks now and again, but that is literally the only thing I could complain about. I have battery saver active 100% of the time except for when editing/gaming and the time away from wall is more than enough for me. It's a great laptop!

Just a suggestion, I think you should add an "i" next to the 9. I think alot of Lenovo buyers can appreciate it, since the i stands for intel, without it it usually means an AMD laptop.

What Lenovo buyers would actually like is if the brand kept their sku’s consistent across different regions and markets. Reviewers are always getting the best config that are nowhere to be found on the Lenovo website. So misleading and frustrating #rant

Great video and review thanks. I got the glossy, touch 3.2K Mini LED with RTX 4060 in the UK. Very impressed with it. I'm finding display calibration and profiling difficult to match my calibrated Eizo desktop monitor. By default, it seems a bit oversaturated. I tried your ICC profile for the matte screen, but your profile from your 2023 review of the glossy screen seems better. I presume the 2024 glossy display is the same model, so should be OK? I also tried profiling in SDR using my old i1 Display Pro with Calibrite Profiler using White LED setting, but it looked oversaturated. That colorimeter is only rated to 1000 nits though. I'd have to get a new HL model to access the Mini LED setting. I trust your ICC profiles more as they are done with a spectrophotometer which works will all display tech.

Very nice review. Like that you put the pros and cons and you detailed as much as possible. I like the display, but it is bummer that if you want battery you need to reduce brightness very much and refresh rate. Also worried a little about the fan noise and performance on battery. In my area this is kinda expensive: €2,572. Do you think this is worth it? I bought and MacBook Pro M3 Max 32GB, 14CPU, 30GPU at €3,656. What would you recommend? Return the macbook and buy this one and have 1k for monitor, accessories, etc? I intend to keep the laptop for a longer time, 5 years at least.

Having tested both the latest MiniLED and OLED screens, I would say it really comes down to personal preferences. The MiniLEDs get (a lot) brighter and usually come with matt options and higher PWM frequencies. OLEDs still look much more "natural", especially on the desktop, where you can get a blooming and "washed out" appearance with a MiniLED.

The only reason I'd go for the G16 now is build quality/appearance. Although OLED might be a problem for me since the programs I use have a lot of static parts for hours... It's a tough choice. I am daily driving the Blade 16 right now to get a real-world impression of the potential burn-in problem. But I would go as far as to say that I do not think it will be an issue. But it will be some time before we have reliable information about it. I would personally probably go for the G16 because of the precalibrated display profiles for sRGB (I need that for video grading). If it weren't for that, it would be the Yoga.

I would expect some comparison with the ASUS Zephyrus G16, because these two are the best laptops in this category with different pros and cons: Compared to G16, the Yoga Pro 9i has - less screen flex but slightly worse build quality, - a brighter and higher-resolution screen but less vivid colors, - a numpad with properly located Home/End/PgUp/PgDwn keys but an off-centered keyboard and touchpad. But I would like to see how it compares in other aspects, like fan noise during light tasks and speakers.

@Reaper31292 Ай бұрын
@@iz723 Thank you for answering these questions. It's really helpful. I've got a couple more if you don't mind answering. Regarding the smearing: This is only in rare situations where the screen is white and there's dark content right? For example, if I wanted to set the refresh rate to 60 and play a game (I cap at 60 and use VSYNC), would I notice any smearing since most games are really colorful? Any estimates on battery life for light work like office, chrome, mail clients, messaging apps? Some people say they're getting 2 hours some around 6. I'm assuming this is in large part due to screen brightness. Finally, any eyestrain from the display at all? There's apparently a flicker, but it seems to be at such a high frequency it shouldn't bother people. I have seen some complaints though.
@iz723
@iz723 Ай бұрын
@@Reaper31292 Sure I don't mind. The smearing is only related to the backlight zones not the lcd layer , and it only effects when the zones (even in sdr mode) have to quickly switch from very dark to very bright. In normal scenes in games at 60 hz you won't see anything. Only if there's a bright white sky and a dark object crosses it fast, then you might see something for example. But tbh, I just keep it at 165hz unless I need the battery life. Battery life is not great. In office apps you can get around 5hrs if you set the display to 60hz, enable battery saver, and lower screen brightness, and make sure you're in Optimus and not in DGPU only mode. Yes the brightness has a big effect. The screen is really nice to look at for long periods. No eyestrain or flickering that I can tell. The PWM is at a super high frequency, not really an issue. I think some people have faulty panels that flicker. I hope this helps. I really think this is one of the best laptops you can buy. The speakers are insane (set Dolby atmos to Music setting always), you can feel really immersed, I even prefer them to headphones sometimes.

I do respect Lenovo's approach, as they let you keep full performance while Asus heavily throttles the CPU to keep the battery from draining when not at 100%. But either way, this is hurting your battery health by putting it through charge cycles when you shouldn't even be using it and in some cases can lead to the battery discharging to 0% and shutting off (while plugged in).

4:10 So, you really can't use the miniLED local dimming in SDR? I don't know why Windows laptop manufacturers can't get this right. It is SO important! Vast majority of content out there is still in SDR! SDR content on my iPad 12.9 with miniLED or LG OLED TV looks miles better than low-contrast displays for very obvious reasons. And they both do it "right" easily. It can't possibly be that complicated!

It is hard to tell, but it looks like they drastically reduced the "effect" of the separate lighting zones to reduce blooming on the desktop. Compared to traditional IPS panels, contrast and brightness is still above and beyond!

Poor QC. The webcam and several buttons were defect. The laptop got uncomfortably hot to the touch as mentioned by many reviewers. I personally didn’t mind the display, it looked decent to me. I wasn’t keen on the white finish either or the RGB, it felt and looked less premium than all metal chassis. The touchpad felt cheap and the click was unsatisfying. The fingerprint scanner got super toasty to the point I couldn’t use it. The speakers are horrendous. I just turned off the speakers entirely because the sound was so bad.

I bought this one and really enjoying it . Couple of things 1) blooming is really bad despite thousands of dimming zones. I am not TOO bothered by it but while using normal desktop stuff with hdr on, things like browsing Reddit with dark mode on make it super obvious In actual movies or games I have not seen it . Even horror games . 2) the fans are quite loud . I think by measurements they seem to be as loud as a g16 2024 so it may be just that I’m not used to gaming laptop In balanced mode they are audible but not too annoying (60w) . I would say most games are playable in this mode but there is probably some bottleneck as in some games (like battlefield 2042 ) I go from 100+ fps to heavy stutter , not present in performance mode . It is really random and does not go away even with very low settings . In performance mode this thing can chew through anything. I sent to it except for 3.2k resolution native gaming which I never expected it to handle lol Overall very pleased . Mini led looks amazing but I don’t leave hdr always on due to blooming . It can do 100w gpu but I’m mostly gaming on 60w balanced . I say most games work well enough with tweaking on balance and fan noise is way better . About the discharge rate … it’s weird . I have battery conservation off which supposedly charges the battery to 75-80% . When I check the battery I see it go up to 80 then down to 75 all the time . I am not sure if I’m having the power draw issue or just Lenovo being weird
@nocommentarygaming2644

Probably because Lenovo lets it draw more than the AC adapter can handle when gaming, leading to battery drain. The same thing happens with my Legion Pro 7i.

Money being not really the issues... But the ECOSYSTEM being one on the long run: I must confess that I'm torn between the Yoga and an Apple MacBook Air 15 with FULL SPECS - 24/1TB or even 2TB. My killer concern here are (already paid-for) licenses for Cubase 13 Pro, Ableton Live 12, Propellerhead Reason 13 and DaVinci Resolve 19 Pro (Beta 5.1). And a couple of other non-trivial apps. So, SERIOUSLY - what would be your preference if you were to spend something between 2500-3000 Euros? (And Fabbois, PLEASE JUST SHUT UP - I'm NOT ASKING YOU!)

And for some strange reason I cannot really put my finger on... I do NOT trust the noise tests. Is this beast REALLY quiet? REALLY? At the end of the day, that is the ONLY test I actually care for. I CANNOT stomach noisy notebooks - end of story. So how quiet is this thing, really?

Numpads are a complete deal-breaker for me now. I tried the Galaxy Book3 Pro 16-inch, and it isn't very good. I am from an older generation, so teaching an old dog new tricks is probably the main reason. However, if you do not need a numpad, it is really a terrible choice. Apple got it right there with the spacious keyboard and centred trackpad. Apart from that, I am not a fan of Lenovo QC based on my sad experience, but that was a while back; maybe they have improved. Also, I would be wary of buying any Core Ultra as it is a new design, and I suspect the next generation will be more refined and have much better battery life. So easy pass...

I think it's in the correct spot for most people. The position should be relative to the chassis overall, in this case it's centered with regards to the letter keys, which is right where you want it to avoid unneccessary touches while typing, especially if palm rejection sucks. Personal preference of course, but that's why most are that way.
