I find the P1 tends to go on sale much more aggressively than the gaming notebooks on Lenovo's website, so the price gap when it's on sale is much lower. For example, where I live, the Legions go for around 15-20% off around the Black Friday sales, but the P1 and thicker P16 when on sale for as much as 60% off. That's where the price gap tends to close. I really like the Sensel touchpad though -that should be standard in the future and the gap between Windows vs Apple laptops, which used to have a touchpad that no Windows laptop could match, has largely closed.

I like haptic touchpads, but the people in Lenovo should really not be diluting the Thinkpad identity by removing the trackpoint buttons, even for their own sake. However, the benefits of the trackpoint buttons are controversial.

CAMM2 64GB costs over £700 in the UK for a Dell board, and that is for 4800 speed. Crucial is sold out for the higher speeds. The problem with CAMM2 is that it is much more expensive than alternatives. If you want to upgrade from 32GB to 64GB, you have to buy the 64GB and try to resell your 32GB, as you cannot simply add 32 GB. So, like with whatever laptop you buy, if you follow common sense logic, buy the new one. most laptops can be used based on your perception of the next 3-5 years of personal use, as CAMM2 will not be the solution in the near future. Most people buy modular RAM, to buy the least and upgrade cheaply. This model is £2350 in the UK with those specs, so it's hard to recommend outside of a sale.

I can't decide between previous version of this P1, 2024 Asus G16 with OLED, 2022 Asus X16 with miniLED and Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Aura Edition. I know, it's all over the place. But for now the cheapest (Yoga) option seems most user friendly - keyboard, weight, battery, screen, touchscreen and size.

All pretty solid options, I would even consider the Yoga Pro 9 as well. I am currently working on a video comparing the Yoga to the G16 ... might help you a little ...

Yup, Yoga Pro 9 seems perfect on paper, but user feedback in regard to battery is so so. Moreover I couldn't find a discount for the 32gb version (EU). Neither for the Legion 7. Idk, but simply being able to run Cyberpunk or Death Stranding on e eGPU blew my mind. And Lenovo keyboards are unbeatable (in G16 it's hard to even see the letters without the backlight).

I've owned the gen6 P1 with an RTX 4090 and it was very good, better than this gen7 which is a step backward in my opinion. I've recently sold it and switched up to a Razer Blade 16 with the same GPU, though, to have more wattage on the GPU (P1 was limiting it to 80W to prevent overheating as it's such a slim chassis).

I had a battery drain problem after installing windows in my P1 Gen 6. After I left it to hibernate the battery showed 95% and couple minutes later it showed a critical level. Idk if it's because it was a warehouse leftover one (though new) or just a bad apple. I might give it another try though - size and build quality is excellenr, with no gamery bs. Mine has rtx A2000 though. I have 1 more week to decide. Playing around with the bulky X16 now.

I wonder what percentage of the users will even game on this to inflate the price for such a high refresh rate. It feels like the (specifically PC) laptop world is cursed with trying to serve office workers, photo editors, video editors, finance people, programmersz students and gamers. Honestly feel like the PC world needs to stop trying to satisfy gamers on non-gaming laptops. PC gamers will always complain about not being able to run some old game at 100+ hertz.

How can a reviewer be sponsored by a company whose products he is supposed to review (NVidia)? This is clearly a case of competing/vested interests. For example in science journals, anyone who publishes has to declare that has no competing interests/funding in the topics he is publishing... I am not accusing the specific reviewer since he seems very honest, but I am wondering on the state of the commercial product reviews...
