Hey Tiffany! I’m a teacher and I think the best way to get the kids into a groove would be to make a schedule for them. Block out time for different academics. Also make blocks in between the academics for lunch and a recess or break time. This would break it up and make it not seem as daunting. As an incentive, you might could block off half a day for a “break day” as a reward. I hope this helps. ☺️

I had to homeschool my foster daughters age 14, 12 & 6 for a while. One thing I changed right away was the lounging in PJs. When they did that, their minds didn’t seem to turn on for a long time. But when we got that rush of adrenaline of getting ready for school as if they were leaving their minds were alert when they hit the computer. I tried to mirror school schedule as much as possible even with recess & lunch so that the only thing that changed was the environment and the people in it. I’m glad I did that because it made for a very easy transition back to school:) Best of luck to you while home schooling. It’s a whole new full time job to add to your day:/

being a teenager, I love your idea of prizes! Keep that idea and your idea of checking on them every 45 minutes! Keep them out of their rooms, their rooms set a mindset where they just want to have fun and relax. I also saw someone else’s idea of block scheduling it and making that a schedule which is great! keeps them from getting overwhelmed and distracted because they can get a break in between classes, have lunch, etc!
@blainesmall4991 Жыл бұрын
A separate room for study would be a good idea. That way the kids will associate their bedrooms for relaxation and fun, but the study room will be associated with studying. It’s important to have designated spaces. I hope that helps! 💕

I suggest designating an area or room in the house for homeschooling. This arrangement will create an atmosphere of formality and bring the kids into a learning mindset; they need to know they are on the clock (not on their own time). Successful homeschooling is contingent on the students developing self discipline, which would be difficult if left unsupervised in their bedrooms.

I think homeschooling works so much better when the kids still get up and get ready along with the other kids. This means they are ready to go for the day and is a good way to show them the day had begun and it’s time to work. Scheduled breaks or break targets is also good e.g. if they finish something they can then take a break and so on

I love how supportive you are. Grace is a wonderful thing for everyone, including Mom! Also, what you're doing, while yes, the kids are learning at home, is technically "public schooling at home," which is BY FAR the hardest form of "homeschooling." I'm not knocking it, because each family needs to do what is best for them. But true homeschooling according to the legal definition in Utah, where you fill out an affidavit and turn it in to your district and you take full responsibility for your kids' education, and no one is putting their agenda in place, is a lot easier, in my experience. Every homeschool family has a different opinion about the matter, but that's mine. So I have mad respect for you doing it the way you are.

I was homeschooled all my life until grades 11 - 12 and it was the best experience for me! I loved the flexibility and the freedom it gave me to have life experiences outside of school. Since I received a weeks worth of work at a time, I definitely found that focusing on one or two subjects a day helped to motivate me to finish all the work for those subjects for that week. Once I'd done that - it gave me freedom to do whatever else I wanted throughout the day. I would also finish all my hard subjects first - like Math and English, and leave the fun subjects last so when I was least motivated in the week, I'd have work that I enjoyed to do. Also remember that transitioning to homeschooling can be hard sometimes, give yourself time and space to adjust and work out what works best for you. Love you guys ❤

Edit: clearly I should have watched the whole video as you mention most of these 😂 Hey! So, I have my degree in elementary Ed, and I’m actually pursuing being a tutor for homeschool kids (as well as teaching my own children if we are blessed with them.) Here are my two cents. 1. Routine Routine Routine. Pick a certain time when they start their work every single morning. This tends to ease the stress around starting to work/motivation. Maybe even incorporating a schedule just for their homeschooling. 2. Reach out to local homeschool moms. There is no shame in asking for help if your kids need it! I know when mine get older they may need outside help with math😅. There are lots of tutors that can come and help with difficult subjects. And the homeschool moms in your area would know who to call. 3. Patience and Grace. This isn’t going to work right away, and that’s fine. You gotta find your home’s rhythm and how you guys operate. Praying for the best for y’all! Homeschooling can be super rewarding!

I do homeschool right now and I do my school work in the morning and take occasional breaks so I don’t get bored and restless. I put away all distractions and I always have water and gum next to me. When I am done doing my work I put my stuff away and rest my brain. One tip I have is to have your work space plus your room clean because I myself find it overwhelming to have a messy workspace. Another thing is that you’ll find your flow. For me it took 3 months to find my schedule. Just take your time and and try different schedules and methods 😊

I am so happy that families like Nen fam exist! You guys are really great! As a homeschooler of 8 years I have a few tips that have worked for me: 1. Find your routine! Some kids work differently (I personally work better in the morning) so try different routines and do what works for you! 2. I would recommend, Tiffany, that if you give the kids a list of ‘independent’ work that they can do while you are on walks, chores, or any other work that might help them get a better start to the day. 3. A way to get the kids to change up things is taking them to museums, science centers, art museums, festivals, or anything hands-on like once a week or once every other week. This allows them to get out of the house while also learning. More for the kids, I would use study trackers (I use study bunny) that gives you small rewards and give yourself some small rewards after you complete a bit of work (but of course whatever works for you). Good Luck!!! -A Big Nen Fam Fan

Hey Tiffany, I know there was drama with kassidy, but I don’t think kicking her out of the trip was the best idea. Because if you watch kass’s video about taking her sisters to the mall you will see that the girls pranked her by ‘losing kass’s credit card’. And you will also see that some of the girls kept on asking for things even though kass didn’t have her card. Some of them were being very spoiled even though kass always buys them everything they want. Maybe it’s just me but giving your children prizes for doing school work gives them the impression that they’re doing school because there’s a prize at the end. The other children don’t get prizes simply for going to school and in the long run it may damage their attitude towards education. Giving them a proper desk to work and fixed hours, making it more like a school day may make things easier to tackle and mean you don’t need to be so vigilant over them all. I hope you work out a solution that works for you soon though❤
@leslieroberts1592 Жыл бұрын
Maybe not the younger children but she said that the high school students got prizes. We do similar with my son. If he will maintain his good grades etc. we draw up a little contract that if he gives it his all then and maintains the criteria in the contract that he can choose from like 3 different options. Plenty of parents give money for good grades, chores, etc. In a way schools offer rewards/incentives as well. You could say that kids shouldn't be rewarded for chores either becuase they need to learn to clean thier own messes, rooms, and help with other things in the house. If an incentive helps to motivate a child in this day and age and to make learning more fun for them maybe especially if kids are struggling for whatever reason, we all know times are changing and I think that school and learning is harder now for kids than ever with all that is going on in our world today. Kids need more encouragement, caring and grace at times. It's ok. The rewards they may receive at home may be all that is recognized all year long for them. How many parents get upset at awards days at school because so many kids will never receive an award based on what schools think should receive awards.

i completely agree these kids are spoiled rotten. they are NEVER gonna get anywhere in life if they keep getting this treatment.

Why did you get Paisley or Presley sorry I don't remember which one but why would you give them $500 and you gave Luke 300 that's not
@Rissa4347 ай бұрын
Because they literally said he's doing every other day so it adds to 300 the girls have it every day so it adds to 500
@Luke-b1l7n7 ай бұрын
Because he still goes to traditional schools half the time and he is still eligible for the 100$ per A that’s why.

A good incentive for the older kids might be a European summer course like Shakespeare in England, A Chinese summer camp, a month in Spain etc. Good for the older kids and it helps them leave the nest when its time for college,though your kids seem pretty independent and there are no cling-ons in your household by the look of it.
