@@scottmarker-treasurevalley7244there is a web app, but it’s still limited compared to the Mac and iOS apps. NotePlan is definitely optimized for the Apple ecosystem but useable on other devices.

Thanks you for sharing this! Glad I found your channel super helpful videos and your taste resonates. Was scrolling KZbin because I was looking to replace my daily interstitial journal Workflowy because it just felt weird making permanent notes in that tool. Apple notes is nice I just don’t fully resonate with it. Also last time I looked into noteplan they didn’t have the web version out yet so it’s nice to see that it will work on my Mac and PC

I’m in! The time blocking is a game changer. So much easier than entering on my calendar. Do time block tasks show up as busy or available on your calendar, do you know? I need them to still show free on my calendar.

@adrianamclane I don’t believe they show as free on your calendar but that MAY be a setting in NotePlan you could customize.

Hey Rick -- Great to see you hear. Heard you had been focusing on AI. Loved the video and I am evaluating this now as a result. Thank you. Curious if you have thought about MAKE integration for this tool. I know you are a big MAKE guy, and I do love the ability to integrate other tools. Thoughts?

@LateNightIM Awesome! I HAVE absolutely thought of integrating NotePlan with Make. I spoke with Eduard, who's the founder, in the Discord and he said right now the API isn't open for that. May change in time though. NP is helping me so much even without the external integration.

I’m a heavy craft user. I’m trying to find something that’s not too complex but integrates everything. I’ll give it a try for two weeks and see if it’s something i want to switch to.

I use both. Craft is documents that I share and need to look professional for work. Noteplan is all my personal drafts, notes, ideas, and tasks. The use of Markdown and the Craft share integration to Noteplan make cross platform use a breeze.

@splink011 thanks for watching. I found Motion to be extremely complex so I cancelled it (before finding NotePlan, too). I also see it as different from NotePlan in that Motion, for me, is more of an AI scheduler, finding the best schedule for tasks, etc automatically. NotePlan doesn't do AI scheduling as it's not intended for that. NP has completely change how organized I am, how I take notes, and schedule my time.

Geez, Rick! NotePlan sounds way too good to be true. I’ve been hunting for a simple, but effective system that would help me pull things together in a coherent way. Do you find it easy to keep things simple and easily retrievable?

@mbteqtalk I thought the same thing. I actually found out about NotePlan when I was researching Notion alternatives in Reddit and I saw it mentioned in a post. I found it VERY easy to find things and keep organized. And there’s a great Discord community which is really supportive, and the creator of NotePlan is very active in there.

This is an interesting tool, I'll have to give it a go. I was just about to switch to Obsidian. Have you tried Obsidian? If so, any insight you can share on how Obsidian compares?

Hey @brianWreaves, Obsidian is a tool I've considered testing many times over the years but it's always felt too much. So, I've not used it. I do know there are a lot of Obsidian users in the NotePlan Discord who have come over to NotePlan.

I’ve used Notion, Obsidian, and also NotePlan, and have happily settled into NotePlan as my tool of choice. Obsidian generally is very difficult to set up the way one wants it, and you have to follow guides on someone’s specific way of setting it up. Even with it set up with plugins, it doesn’t integrate with Calendars or Reminders nearly as well and by default as NotePlan

Spent time with Obsidian - just found it overwhelming to try and get it to do the things that Noteplan does right out of the box.

While I like Obsidian, I find it's too fiddly for the way I think and I spend more time fiddling with all the options versus just being productive. Plus, the Obsidian experience on Apple devices does not feel native to the device at all, as I believe it's an electron app that can be used on any platform. That's great for cross platform goodness, but it feels out of place on a Mac or on the iOS based devices. I find NotePlan is much more visually pleasing for me and feature rich without being too fiddly.

Can't you do this inside the Google ecosystem? you can open the reminder with the Google calendar side bar apps and even mails react like that

I do use Google Workspace and tried to do what I'm now able to do in NotePlan and it just hasn't worked the way that I would like it to. But that's for my workflow, which is entirely changed for the better since finding NotePlan.

Notion is a great tool - particularly for collaborative work environments. For me, one of the key differences is that Noteplan is a native MacOS app vs. an webapp with a wrapper - which allows it to integrate more closely with the Apple environment. I also think it just "feels" different from Notion - but that's just my view - though I do think the interface has a strong point-of-view. I think the integration of the calendar into notes is unlike anything I've seen from other productivity apps - with maybe the exception of ClickUp.

@@droskill it seems in the comments of your video that you skipped the very popular agenda, which has a very powerful and immigration. In fact that it’s key song has been for several years and why was built in the first place one Gaul side to Agenda in my opinion is that they are slow on the uptake with AI and how to use it. They don’t seem to get the AI vision. That said this application doesn’t seem to get full power into AI either but they are moving in a better direction than others including Apple itself. There is more degenerative AI and just generating text from prompts.
