Isn't it interesting that no matter what some people may say about flower paintings (they're a cliche, they're worn out, it's the type of work done by grandmas and hacks), there are some serious artists who will still gravitate towards doing them. I mean, there were a lot of heavy hitters here. A lot. And what does that tell you? I think what it says is that serious artists sometimes just say to themselves, "You know what? F it....I'm going to do a flower painting cuz I feel like doing a damn flower painting. Screw pretention. I am free." And I think you can feel that attitude in this show. Love it. Thanks James...keep on trucking.

Yeah @jay dubya that's true, but there are also several "flower paintings" in this show that ain't really flowers...(just nice abstract pieces?)

@@jameskalm True, but that the curator's thing to include abstract "flowers." IMO, some of those extreme abstracts didn't really fit, but I didn't curate it, so what the hell do I know?

Thanks James, shout out from Texas. I'm glad that some galleries are starting to reopen and I hope they can stay that way. The current gallery here in my small town is fixing to have a flower themed show so this ties-in pretty well with that.

Thanks @Richard Lund...I was thinking about this show while editing it, and it occurred to me that the Classic French Academy had classifications for the various subject maters of painting. Number one was "history painting" (what I try to do, yuck, yuck) number two was genre painting, finally there were landscape/still-life painting... As I state in the vid, this category kinda exposes who really can paint and whose riding on hype...

So wonderful to see art shows. Paintings are my interest, like your interest, Loren. As a painter myself, I really enjoy knowing that there are others out there engaging in the ACT of PAINTING. I put prints of my paintings on Etsy under SM Jack. Prints are really helpful for artists when they want to keep the originals. I do love to see originals in person for sure, also. Thanks very much for the good view and detail. Very interesting to see flower painting of all kinds so much on trend at the moment, maybe confluence between semi covert feminist/womens interest and heightened awareness of biodiversity. Although most of them are urban house plants. I think its a good focus.
