As a Muslim, who remembers hearing his joke on the Christchurch incident(probably why i recognized him) without knowing who he was or what he did back then, I too felt this sense of anger, I completely understand dark humour and offensive jokes now but ig it was just that something like that incident happening in broad daylight for like a good few hours without any sort of action from the police or the authorities is what really triggered everyone, and every Muslim back then felt this sense of fear that no one actually cared about us and that any person could literally walk in a mosque and kill tens of muslims and just stroll around the city without any sort of fear is what made us so sensitive in a way. I've always heard jokes about Muslims being terrorists or anything alike and always found it funny just like most of the Muslims do lmao, but ig also because the incident was pretty fresh and the outrage was still on, him putting that joke out in that period really wasn't the best of him, he would've known what he was getting himself into, right? Also, the part where he mentions performing the joke in Christchurch and most of the crowd having a good time, like duh? It happened there for a reason. Imagine going to Auschwitz in *those* times and cracking a joke about the Jews being impure or some shit, obviously its going to get a huge laugh mate. I haven't seen a lot of his content lately to know how good he is at standup tho. I hope he's doing well today and continues to, as well. Also, absolutely loved the episode Darren, we need more of this!

Hang on. Your saying everyone in chirchchurch would have loved the joke because they have the same radical idea the the guman did? Is that not the same as racist people saying all muslims are terrorists. I am from chrichurch so probably feel a bit bias, but although there are some peices of shit racists out there i felt that after the shooting is was mostly love for the muslim community. I completely understand that doesnt change the horrific thing that happened, but i think its ridiculous for you to complain about his joke (which i also thought was distasteful) and then say that most people in christchurch hate muslims like the gunman did which is quite frankly to opposite. Its like saying all muslims are the same as osama bin laden or something, complete bullshit

Not going to lie, finding someone who also kinda knows your pain (mental and/or physical) is an awesome way for you to get some healing. Like it isd all "If this person can laugh and make jokes about the similar trauma that I went through then so can I!" Downplaying your own pain/trauma is so fucking healing, I tell you what!
