"Nothing is square?!" - Woodworkers React

New approach: let's kick back and talk through the steps we went through to make the patio table build you saw in our last video. It's part behind-the-scenes, part woodworking tips, part project plans, and part get-to-know-us (Mark & Corey, the guys to blame or credit for making videos for Woodworkers Source!). This was a fun build, and we thought y'all would appreciate a peek behind the curtain.

I absolutely love this format of video. Please do it again. I'd take this style video and commentary over the plans any day! I build exactly like you do, to the tool, not the design, ish. I still build anything, sometimes making due, but it always comes out. Thanks for the inspiration, love this design!

You should think of offering a package deal. Buy the lumber and get the plans free. You could set a price for each of several different types of wood that would be recommend for the project. Even offering prices for s2s or s3s for those of us that don't have a planer or even jointer. Just a thought. Love woodworkers source. Keep up the good videos.

I just discovered this extended video on the patio table. The table turned out SO awesome! As far as the problem with getting a flat surface on the base and top.....I might try using a low angle block plane to get it near flat. Then put coarse adhesive backed sandpaper on the top of your table saw or a flat surface like MDF. Set your patio table on the sandpaper and sand it down flat, then finish with some finer sandpaper by hand or using the same method if you have adhesive sandpaper in different grits. I don't think it would be too much work if you started off with coarse sandpaper. Your method worked well but seemed like a lot of work setting up to cut on the table saw. If you have a large stationary belt sander that would do the trick too. You'd just have to be real careful. Enjoyed the "podcast" you guys did!

Loved the authenticity of your interaction with each other. Btw I think sticking with epoxy is the safe bet. It’s like putting felt over a house for shingles. But you know shingles are better. Ca glue is very brittle. And could chip when you slide the piece poolside concrete. Love the videos.

LOVE THIS "deep dive" Not to give you more work, but please do this with every project....errrrr I mean "commercial for selling wood" 😁 After two years of working with select pine and plywood (to hone my skills) I've made two hardwood projects. Both came out w/o HORRIBLE faults. Nothing I couldn't fix, anyway. And the wood that I ordered from you guys have been TOP NOTCH!!! Thank you! Mark, do you have a dual bevel miter saw? You could have cut the miter and the bevel at 10 degrees at the same time and you wouldn't have had to flatten the top or bottom on the table saw.

Yeah, this project got really over complicated ! lol... All the jigs he made and time/thought put into how to fix it later . lol. Duel bevel for the win!

Re: The little rip nub cleanup. If you use a gripper with footing on both sides of the blade you don't need to do the nub maneuver. I've done it, though, more times than I'd like to count. Sans gripper, that is. Love seeing you guys try to remember, "Oh yeah that's how we did that! Happens to me all the time! 🤪

A couple things, 1) If I have the geometry right and I likely do, if you laid the project on it’s side then you could set your table saw to 10°. You should have been good or real close.

What is that sun stuff you put on? Do you sell it? Do you have a materially list and plans yet? Loved that table‼️‼️‼️ plan on making two for my back yard when I get done in my kitchen. Keep up the good work 🥰😎

2) You could use angle finder to double check this. 3) running a scrap piece through first could be used to verify making sure that works. 4) The top can be cut the same way but you would need to put the fence on the opposite side. Though in doing the blade is tilted toward the fence so it would be best to set up a stop block and push the it through with your mitre set to 10° to avoid kickback

I think a castle joint would be good at the corner. You’d need a tenoning jig for your table saw that you could fix at your 10 degree angle. Then no Domino necessary. I do love the shape of the table and that roasted oak.

Ha, I build a lot of projects without detailed plans, if I have some pictures, dimensions, angels I can usually get by. Having a video is a bonus. But I’m sure every woodworker appreciates this type of post project video breaking down the challenges you will face. Nice job guys! Much appreciated.
