A collection should always aspire to one day become a museum. It doesn't HAVE to become one...but it should have the potential. That's how a collection like this comes into being, and think of how much history is preserved because of it.

Exactly, the National Trust or whoever should ensure this house/collection is forever preserved.

If you think about it, Peel was playing all the esoteric stuff other DJs were not. Most Radio DJs would be playing the 2-3 min single, so I guess noting the times of tracks could have had a practical purpose for Peel as a DJ because if he is picking tracks off obscure albums from his collection to play on the radio that track could be any length.
@stevenmcguinness47515 жыл бұрын
Given his place at Radio 1, JP wouldn’t have paid for any music, he would have been bombarded with Promo’s constantly. Even normal club dj’s were. It must now be worth Millions.
@tomtheeagle15 жыл бұрын
I can assure he was a keen cratedigger, so did pay for a lot of his own music. One should never make such assumptions.

As a DJ, JP learned never to trust the playing times printed on the record albums. So he would listen to EACH RECORD and hand write the actual times on a label he stuck on the sleeve.
@nigelstansfield16443 жыл бұрын
And then sometimes forget and play at wrong speed.To be fair in90s white label 12 inch didn't show playing times.Sometimes different speed on B side.

Of all the art forms popular music is , in my opinion , is perhaps the most important , because it is made by us , made for us , and very often it is about us ! Without John Peel the worlds youth cultures and music cultures would be very different , music would be much more narrow and shallow , it can't be overstated how important he was !

If I had won the 170 million I would buy the House and leave everything as It Is. And just spend the rest of the time I have left playing through them. RIP John Peel. I just wonder hiw many they got out with up their jumpers.

I get the feeling he'd love it......he was a music man, through and through. And to know they were treating his collection (a large part of which were free promos) as the ultimate diggers cache, and picking out snippets to sample and remould, would have warmed his cockles no end!

These people are being repectful and being careful not to damage anything....I reckon that John Peel wouldt want the records to be played and have others getting inspriation from them...rather than just set aside like a museum exhibit , decaying with no one allowed to touch....at the end of the day,these records are not sacred idols...music needs to be heard and enjoyed....
@ambientman81505 жыл бұрын
Why are they allowed to handle this National Treasure of a collection. It should be left alone as a mark of respect to John. Only his family and very nearest to him should have access to this remarkable collection. Peel was the soundscape to many people’s youth. I hope they did not damage and misplace the records. But never the less an amazing view of one the most staggaring record collections you will ever see....still miss your dulcet tones on those bleak winter evenings John.
