(I am a huge monster high fan) This game doesn't actually portray how inclusive the school Monster High is. In the movies and webshow, monster high is specifically held up as being accessible to all monsters, while the other schools in the universe are seperated by race for some reason???? Like there's a vampire-only school, ghost-only school, etc. Monster High is supposed to be the only school exempt from committing fantasy racism lmao

Monster High is regarded as an inclusive school for all kinds of monsters, and even humans sometimes, but occasionally there _is_ some racism between students, like the one time they brought in a bunch of students from a werewolf school and a vampire school, or when the hybrid monsters were outcasted for a little bit, but generally they get along fine most of the time. There's also monster/human racism like when Jackson first transferred and he was picked on for being a human, or that time Holt was almost murdered by townspeople for being a monster.

Holy shit Penny's audio book rant is so niche but I know exactly what she's talking about and I was annoyed by the same thing! That and any time someone says "Okay?" he does the same kind of condescending tone, turning it into _"ooookaaaay?“_ and he ends up making everyone sound sarcastic every time they're asking a question. What's even worse is that in later books there are one-off characters with ethnic names here and there (like classmates Percy has that he'll never see again once he gets kicked out and has to change schools again), and that narrator gives them accents even when there's no indication in the text of them having one. That rant resurfaced such specific years-old memories that have been too niche for me to talk to anyone about and finally I've been able to get this off my chest and it's like a curse has been lifted. Thank you.

Mister Moon Yes. It’s also waaaaaaay subtler than I think literally anything else MH has ever said. Their whole thing is being loud and proud. “Ghoul Spirit” being extra is very much the point. Aside from that, it holds the implication of emphasis on ghosts, iirc we haven’t seen any of those yet, and the core of MH’s cast (the main ones that got a practically infinite number of dolls) doesn’t even include a ghost

Penny is so right about the Percy Jackson audiobooks, but you know what was amazing? The Kane Chronicles audiobooks were epic, I listened to them a million times when I was a kid. They specifically got 2 voice actors, one for Sadie and one for Carter and I just adored it. I can't listen to them easily anymore though, the mp3 player they were on tragically died from water damage, but man! Miss those.

Monster High fan moment: A. Poor Ghoulia! Are there no accommodations for the zombie population at Monster High who can't talk??? B. Cleo is not literally Cleopatra, though the name choice is still stupid, like the vast majority of name choices are stupid. She just happens to be this OTHER royal Ancient Egyptian mummy. Apparently, the pre-school series Super Monsters also has a mummy girl named Cleo who also happens to be totally separate from literally Cleopatra. There are no other names for female mummies, apparently. I found the audiobook discussion really interesting. I don't really know the process of the recording for an audiobook, but I have noticed from listening to them that there seems to be a choice to either just read the words or act out a performance. I've definitely noticed a difference between a performance from an actor known for reading audiobooks and anime voice actors reading them. I think lot of the job of acting for an audiobook, unless it is a full cast, is being capable of reading the entire thing for a number of hours. The average depends on the genre, but you have children's books where it's usually 4-12 hours, but then you have extreme cases like Stephen King's IT which is an audiobook that is over TWO DAYS long. The purpose of an audiobook for some people isn't the performance so much as it's their only way of having access to the story. So because of that I've noticed a lot of audiobook performances can be a mixed bag in comparison to anime or cartoon voice acting. I never considered if they read the books first before recording. I felt a similar way you felt when I listened to the audiobook for Perks of Being a Wallflower, where the performance was very good but the reader chose to do a voice for the main character's sister that made her sound like an annoying person, which was whatever until they reach the deeply serious themes of the book involving abortion and sexual violence and he's still doing a valley-girl Lumpy Space Princess type voice. So anyway, gud letsplay

One of my favourite facts about this game is that you literally cannot win on the wii version LOL. If you do literally every quest and respond correctly to every dialogue prompt you cannot fill your meter high enough to become scream queen.
