To be fair the Nothing lost quite a bit of time just because it doesn't let you exit games on the first swipe so you don't accidentally exit the game. When you take that into account it was even faster.

0:42 Correction: it’s not the same A15 bionic powering the iPhone 13, but 13 Pro/Pro Max. The base 13’s chipset was limited but base 14 was given the top spec of the A15. Also, there’s an extra GPU core too.

That is true but opening apps is mainly CPU-intensive and mainly single core at that. In gaming those extra GPU cores may be useful but not in this test.

Great video! Can you make a video comparing 2 phones wich have been used for 2-3 years? Since many phones tend to perform very smoothly out of the box but the performance decreases significantly with time. While exiting the app on nothing phone 2 or any other phone, the home gesture requires two swipes (one for pulling up the tab and one for actually exiting) whereas iphone does it with one swipe only. This is the case with many androids. This should be factored in.

It is swings and roundabouts a s I could say SnapSeed sucks on iOS and using one of Apple’s apps to do the same task would be way faster than SnapSeed. So although I agree, the buttons would be better, then I would say use another app instead of SnapSeed (I gave up on that years ago).

Not necessary faster but more optimize to have more apps in the background. There is a time that more ram do make phone faster but that is only if your average ram consumption is constantly within 80-90% usage

It’s showing Android caught up to IPhone and Androids will only get better with time and updates. I have a Pixel 6 and IPhone 13 my Pixel is smoother now and opens some apps faster. But I can’t deny IPhones optimization and battery life.

Yes, not a shock here as the A15 chip is from mid-2021 and the SD8+G1 is mid-2022. Snapseed the main culprit and Excel on RAM management. Otherwise neck and neck. Even when the A17 arrives in the next six weeks I expect the Nothing 2 to put up a good show as we have reached a point where performance is levelling out between yearly upgrades.

Obviously, since Qualcomm sacked Samsung we no longer get crap chipsets for Android. That has only happened this year. So we have a reset of mobile chips with both using superior TSMC technology and hopefully we will never see Samsung fabs make Android flagship chips ever again.
