I recently bought my 14 year old son a 1971 cub ih 107 with no deck or attachments to move carts around during his chores. He LOVES it. Great bonding times having my four boys with me doing tank cleanings and modifying an old mower seat to use on it. It is a beast and he looks really proud driving it around the farm. He will think it's cool what you are doing with yours. Nice video.

Hi, I have a 1973 IH Cub Cadet 129 Hydrostatic that is completely original as far as I know. It still runs pretty good too. I bought it for $1,000 in about 1997 well used from a place that had a 1,000 little engines and old mowers. The paperwork for it says it was NEW 28 MARCH 1973. It's has a 12hp Kohler K301 engine. I don't know what the difference between your 149 and my 129 is, but from the video they look identical except mine has no lighting. I found a rototiller and a snow blower for it a while after I bought it. I've never used the snow blower which goes on the front, and the guy I bought it from said it was never used since new. I did use the tiller. It worked very well. The tiller goes on the back with a rather novel hookup using about a 12 foot long 1/2" V belt that runs from the PTO clutch in the front, down under all the way back to a 90 degree gearbox that mounts on the back of the rear axle. From the 90 degree box there is a short belt that runs the tiller. I made a garden using it for a couple years. The only thing was I had to figure out the spring assist to lift the tiller. But mostly I bought it so my lady friend would amuse herself mowing my 1 1/2 acre lawn. She's long gone, but the Cub still mows. All is in working order even the spindle bearings on the mower deck, although they're a little noisy due to lack of greasing (my fault, I got lazy a couple times.) My neighbors made fun of me when they saw it. They upgraded from Sears lawn tractors to Brand New John Deere lawn tractors, but I didn't want to spend that much money. The only thing I'd change is the starting system. I'd put a flywheel starter on it if I could find one cheap enough and just use the starter/ generator for a generator, because it doesn't crank very fast even with a new battery. I've had it professionally rebuilt, but it barely cranks it cold. But that old 12hp K301 starts up immediately if it will crank all the way over. I wouldn't trade that tractor but my son will when I'm gone. Thanks for the video, you and I know what a quality tractor that little IH Cub is. ben/ michigan

Yep Sir IH Cub Cadets are a Special Thing, dont have a 149 but I do have 1 Cub 100, 1 Cub 102, 1 Cub 122 parts, 1 1450 and 1 1650 they are the Greatest Little Tractors I am and admit being totaly Bias in that Comment!

While i do love the older garden tractors, owning a GT2544. a newer (as of 20 years old) MTD made cub garden tractor will do these jobs with ease. MTD bought cub in 1981, the 82 series, cyclops, 2000, 2500, and 3000 series garden tractors were all made under MTD! Up until last year, cub cadet has retained their original design of shaft drive to a heavy duty cast iron rear axle with a strong hydro, nice big frames, power steering, etc… My point is most of the greatest garden tractors from cub were made under MTDs ownership.

@@yvens001 I understand why, the IH cubs are simple and great machines. But to say that the MTD made cub GTs are junk is just false.

Yes You could be Correct MTD did retain the build quality of Cub Cadet but I am Partial to Cub under International Harvester there are short commings I will admit, it is unusual however for a Company to retain a Tradion to the extent MTD did but still dont want one! I have used a Cub 102 with a QA36 snow thrower for nearly 40 years and not without issues for sure but it is still mostly as it was made it is a Very tough Machine! Cheers!!!

Here's a question for you to contemplate. If a farm mower is called a mower, a tedder is a tedder and a baler is a baler, why isn't a rake called a raker?
