There is a lot of garden prep in today's video as we make space to create a play area and outdoor kitchen for our little helpers. The homemade compost for next year is already looking good. The swimming pool has seen better days and the old barn beams are cut up a little unconventionally.

Welcome to Living in the Loire, we are a family in rural France, renovating previously poorly converted barns.
We aim to do most of the work ourselves, being as frugal and as eco as possible. We are learning on the job and we hope to share the skills we pick up along the way.
When possible we will take you on a tour of the region (the garden of France) sharing with you the numerous chateaux, towns and markets.
As well as the house we will be transforming the garden, bringing part of it back to its previous use as a potager. This is our dream and one of the main reasons of leaving the city to move to the countryside in France.

Have a look at the hollar homestead vlog,they use their chickens to make and turn the compost. It speeds up the process! I’ve made a smaller version for my 5 girls and it’s garden gold!!! And eggshells baked and fed back to the chickens is a great calcium source… And crushed eggshells for the garden.. Get the chickens helping and pay their way!!!

Ours friends have a above ground pool in a polytunnel keeps the water warm and great for stopping the rain getting in.

Interesting. Yes we have a future plan but the maintenance and energy it uses, you wonder if it's even worth it. We have a big outdoor pool 10 minutes away which they seem to enjoy more.

How do you feel now mentally? Does working with hands on the homestead help you? Maybe it is too private but, it would be nice if you could make a video of how are you dealing with that. I also had some issues, and for me, there were up and some down days depending on everyday circumstances. I wish you and your family the best.

I think we could talk about these things on a live chat or in a members only video. I took down some videos talking about my mental health and struggles in the past. Mainly because I was taken advantage of by individuals who used the information in those videos to exploit me, for their own gain. I guess if I'm making videos, it's good. If we're taking time out, it's not. But I hope you're doing well. Life should be challenging, as then it is more fulfilling.

Hi I have small compost heap and add chicken waste, veg, grass, cut up plants, etc and found a tarp weighed down on top with plenty of rain increases the heat. The worms are just multiplying so well. Hopefully after winter I can turn it over and see the results.😂

Your compost will be great by spring time. Did you know you can add coffee grounds and egg shells and green food items to your compost .

Yes, we put them in a separate contained bin first so it doesn't attract too many rodents then mix it all in once it's rotted down.
