Actually, I'd venture to say that the Council wasn't right. If the Jedi didn't train Anakin, likely would've just been picked up by Sidious early, and he'd become Darth Vader a decade earlier. Which just means more dead younglings. If they just treated him right like Qui-Gon did, they'd have saved themselves. Hell, maybe if they didn't stiff him in the Jedi Council promotion and force him to spy on his best friend, he wouldn't have turned on them.

Which may mean that they don't end up in a relationship because he'd have 10 years to get over it instead of keeping it to himself. And if they did, then he wouldn't need to turn to palpatine for advice because he'd be able to talk about it everyday with any member of the order especially satele herself. So there wouldn't even be an issue of promoting him since they would staright up tell him his nightmares are likely bullshit manipulation and track down palpatine by logical order of elimination of suspects
