Here’s what I think happened: The current act 3 was made in a week (excluding the map) but there was another version that was so ambitious that the devs couldn’t push it out with even 2 months. Things supporting this claim are the map and the statue.Let me explain. The map is very, VERY lord exo themed and before the event started, instead of the narrator as the statue, they had a blocky figure that highly resembled lord exo. If the narrator was planned form the start as the main antagonist of the event, wouldn’t the map be themed more like a masquerade stage? Also, the enemies just seemed rush. I think we only got about 4-5 new enemies (counting the hands as just one since they are literally the same model) which further proves that the devs probably only had a week to rework the original story, boss, and enemies

here's what I think the story should've gone act 1 stays the same, umbra gets her powers, saves penumbras from the townspeople, and they go off on their own adventures act 2 shows umbra succumbing to her powers, she tries to defend Trick or Threat town from a previous Lord Sinister invasion (in the halloween 2020 event the narrator alludes that Trick or Threat town gets constant attacks by Lord Sinister. This is an example of one of them, but before the 2020 attack). The nature of the god cube is to corrupt those who come into contact with it (normal into gravedigger, molten into molten boss, fallen into fallen king, slaughter warden into wox, husk into gunslinger, idk for nuclear monster or void reaver). During the middle of the act, Lord Sinister attacks Trick or Threat town and umbra finishing him off. He retreats and attacks next year. However, umbra ends up succumbing to her powers, transforming her and penumbras along too. The setting shifts over to Nightmare Carnival as she goes on a rampage, taking control of Lord Sinister's minons and contructs the Jack o Bot. We fight back against the Jack o Bot and the narrator comments on how umbra didn't succeed in defeating Lord Sinister despite her powers, alluding to the fact that the narrator takes the role of the commander in halloween 2020. The lore is that he came to Trick or Threat town the next year to witness Lord Sinister's next invasion. act 3 shows the beginning of the solar eclipse event, even before night 1, where umbra constructs her totality tower in preparation for the invasion. We the players take the role as a small team meant to take down umbra before she gets too powerful. We were meant to lose. The mid game boss is a giant umbra plushie (like the one in pizza party but stronger) that's supposed to take us out. Thing is, we win, and the narrator's whole story is ruined. The giant umbra plushie is meant to return at the climax where the real "heroes" take her down. But now that we've taken her down, he has no antagonist. So the narrator shuts down the whole show and tries to take us down himself. Cue the current act 3, but this time, the hands act as a mini-boss and the narrator shows up, trying to take the god cube for himself. The narrator only exists in a meta-realm so he has to use some form of vessel to attack us. We take him down, but the narrator's vessel gets back up and begins clapping, the stage lights turn on revealing a cheering audience. "Congratulations! That was a one of a kind performance! Perhaps my best yet! As a thank you for being such good actors, have one of mine (jester)! See you soon!" Turns out that during the narrator's attack, he was so impressed by your performance that he improvised it into part of the show. He thanks you by giving you the jester, and says goodbye. Also one more thing, a bonus act (encore) Basically just a bonus mode where you try to beat all three acts in one sitting. Beating it gives you the overture jester skin and a guaranteed ugc of the jester's hat. It's a solo mode, but in exchange you get 2 extra tower slots, increased tower placement limits, and a whole lot of cash.

This is a concept for a storyline that I think would’ve been cool for the Lunar Overture event. I’m not gonna go in depth into gameplay. Act 1 - Mostly the same. In the last cutscene, either Umbra or Penumbras will say something along the lines of “The kingdom will be after us”. This line subtly establishes the overarching antagonist of the story, the kingdom that rules the land in which the story takes place in. Act 2 - Establishes the characters of Jaxe and Swamp Monster. They too are beings of magic and are also being hunted by the kingdom. The first cutscene shows them being chased by angry citizens with pitchforks and torches, but are saved when Umbra and Penumbras intervene. A small detail that will be important to the story is that U & P do not use lethal spells, only stunning the citizens or pushing them back. The citizens then retreat after the intervention. We get a short conversation between the 4 characters, establishing that they must work together to survive. At the end of the conversation, we hear a war horn, signaling that the kingdom is sending their army to kill the 4. This segues into the gameplay part, which will involve the player defending against a medieval army in a forest setting. At the ending cutscene, the 4 watch the army retreat before entering a conversation. Penumbras will mention that they will have to kill the people of the kingdom at some point if they are to survive, and Umbra will protest. Jaxe will intervene and say that they need to gather supplies to survive. They agree to infiltrate a nearby city to gather supplies. Act 3 - Takes place in the kingdom’s capital. In the first cutscene, we see that the 4 characters have donned cloaks to hide their identities. As they walk through the city, we see posters that call for their deaths, with handsome rewards for doing so. Penumbra silently remarks that what they’re doing is foolish, before they walk into the city center. There, they see several young beings of magic (witches and wizards probably) being held. A public execution is about to take place, and the citizens are cheering for the deaths of the captives. We get a shot of them waving torches and pitchforks, with some throwing tomatoes at the captives. The 4 characters argue briefly as to whether they should help the captives, before two knights approach them, asking them to take off their cloaks. Before they can protest, one of the knights tear off Umbra’s cloak, revealing her identity. The knights exclaim “Witch!” (Or something like that), before backing up into a defensive stance against the group. We get an aerial shot of the 4 being surrounded by the citizens and knights, which segues into the gameplay portion of the act. This gameplay would probably be similar to a defend the center map, which will place at the center of the capital. Here, the player must defend against an assortment of citizens and medieval soldiers, with the final boss being a some sort of medieval nobility (lord, king, some monarch, idk). In the ending cutscene, we see the 4 main characters surrounded by a ruined capital, with the corpses of its inhabitants littered around them. We got a shot of Umbra looking at where the 5 wizards/witches were being held, only to see that they’ve been killed. She approaches them, and we can see her visibly enraged, falling to her knees in anguish. P, J, and SM approach her from behind, watching her silently. She rises to her feet and turns to the rest of the group, exclaiming that humanity must pay for what they’ve done (or something like that). She walks past the group and out of the city through the main gate. We see fires raging from the houses, countless corpses, and an eclipse in the night sky. Although this doesn’t explain the God Cube or how Umbra built Totality Tower, I believe those things are okay to be left as speculation. The God Cube is intentionally unexplained and mysterious, and TT can probably be assumed to have been built from magic or something like that.

They actually started around August, giving them a 3 month window. All the animations for the cutscenes were also apparently done by Profine with Mocap so that's something. And as promised by one of the balancers (usual low value Paradoxum promise), Act III won't stay as it is. Me personally, with less than 2 weeks left for the event, X to doubt.

Even though Act 3 was horrible. I dont think they rushed the update. The update not event. I can tell they put effort into the reworks because of the skins and how badass the mini and ranger looks but when it came to the event . They completely rushed it. In terms of the event it is 2nd worst event in tds history but for the update itself it was a dam good one . Edit : I forgot to say it had 2 event towers which were cool and pretty good

honestly, act 3 is a mess but the narrator turning on us was to be expected: He told us to protect the cube at all costs possibly because he was transforming the umbra and she was very vulnerable, which explains why citizens and the executioner, both of which were previously towers and units, attack the cube in order to possibly save you??? And then, after the transformation, we see umbra send out minions and stuff and the narrator turns on us. Still, they could've portrayed this story much better and not leave us theorizing what the story is. Overall, mid event, not too bad and not too spectacular, just mid.

As a TDS theorist, I completely agree. For an event that was built around the lore and storytelling, it was a complete fumble. I struggled to find a good chunk of lore for TDS. Act 1 gave us answers in exchange for questions. Said answers were; who were umbra and penumbra, who was the narrator, how did umbra get her powers, what is lord exo(somewhat cuz of the god cube). Act 2 was a downgrade. However, it does explain why Swamp Monster and Jaxe were subordinates of the Umbra. They were under the control of Jack-o-Bot, who was a subordinate of Umbra. However, one thing disappointing with act 2 is how Lord Sinister was treated like he never existed. Lord Sinister was the one invading Trick or Threat town. It wasn’t Jack-o-Bot, that would be Nightmare Carnival(the first map of act 2). Lord sinister needs more respect. Moving onto act 3, the only thing I could pick up that’d be somewhat useful to lore is Narrator’s first piece of dialogue where he admits to working behind the scenes since Trick or Threat town. Before y’all start barking like angry dogs, Narrator was ALWAYS EVIL. He was very evil since Halloween2020. Back to what I was saying, Halloween2020 was the beginning of TDS’ story arc, however, it wasn’t as apparent until Solar Eclipse. This line of dialogue tells us that Narrator had something to do with events following Halloween2020. Frost Invasion, Solar Eclipse, Duck Hunt, and Violent Night. Maybe even Pizza Party, but idk. Even with the piece of dialogue, all this information is very vague and may even be outright false. However, Violent Night and Eclipse make sense because the first 2 acts have Umbra lore and the God Cube took a part in the event, which is speculated to be connected to Exo. Btw, I don’t think Exo is the “main antagonist” for TDS. He’s just a major villain for a a certain arc of tds(Either Halloween or Eclipse to whenever the hell he makes an appearance in-game). I don’t think Narrator is a puppet, or a creation of Exo, just a partner of Lord Exo. Overall, this event went well for the first few days. The event didn’t fulfill its purpose of giving us major information for the incoming events to add on to the current story arc TDS is in. It gave us more questions than answers, and it even doesn’t line up with some of the events. Act 2 and Halloween2020 don’t match. Like, at all. Heated opinion, but, Act 3 was kinda overhyped by the community. Nobody mentioned a boss for Umbra, Exo, nor Narrator. I feel like narrator being a boss would be a throw-away piece of lore, but they could’ve atleast made a cutscene after we beat the hands, or some piece of lore given by the Narrator before the victory screen. Narrator definitely has more information to give us about Exo, or atleast give us a couple hints to the rest of the TDS story arc. Narrator being a boss has just as many plot holes as Exo or Umbra having a boss fight in act 3. It would completely destroy the lore built up, and feel anticlimactic because we still don’t have vital information on these figures before they have a proper fight. In fact, the hands were always meant to be the boss. This means Narrator has more purpose than just being a throw-away boss that was built up since Halloween2020. We have a lot more information coming our away from Narrator, possibly Umbra, Lord Exo, and possibly other figures yet to be revealed, one of these yet-to-be revealed creature being herobrine.

I have some few information about the lore, I think that all of the events are connected to one another, this all started back to the Violent Night Event, specifically the trailer, at exactly 1:01 in that trailer, there's that black and purple poster, with the words "NO MORE CHRISTMAS PRAISE(?) LORD EXO" which is a bit random as the other posters are about Christmas and such, that one was the odd one, and then at the end of the trailer, there was this purple binary figure at the end, which most of us assumed that it is the one controlling the elves, and it's odd as this enemy never showed up in the Violent Night Event, this enemy, I think was later confirmed by one by the team of the game on discord that it was Lord Exo, so we have a name of that mysterious entity, but have no clue about what exactly it is, or what it's origins are. Now in the Lunar Overture Event, there's the God Cube, which is a purple binary cube, this is assuming that the UGC "God Cube Fragments" are fragments of the purple cube, it's another mysterious thing, as there's no origins of it, and it's.. Kind out of place, the event was more so Solar/Lunar Eclipse themed with a hint of story tell, but nothing related to computer or code, it's a weird thing that is out of place in this event. I assume that the God Cube is either, where Lord Exo originated from, or it's an item belong to Lord Exo, and maybe that's also where Lord Exo gets it's powers? Not sure, and remember, it seems that all events are connected to one another, Act 2 was retelling the story of the Halloween 2019 Event, not to mention the Act 2 map is called "The Haunted Past," either it's coincidental or intentional, as the two maps(phase 1 and 2) are based of old maps from the Halloween 2019 Map, Nightmare Carnival and Halloween 2020 Map, Trick or Threat Town , Act 2 seems to confirm that Umbra sent Jack-o-bot to attack during the Halloween 2019 Event, not sure about Lord Sinister from the Halloween 2020 Event, but again it might be it, after all, the Lunar Overture Event is a show retelling the past, sure Act 3 wasn't, but it still gave significance. Also, it's confirmed that the Narrator from both Lunar Overture and Halloween 2020 Events are the same person, just different appearances and outfits, so it doesn't seem odd that perhaps all of the events are connected, and a little theory of mine, but maybe.. The Narrator IS Lord Exo? Yes I don't have proof, however, both Narrator and Lord Exo have unknown origins, we don't even know the Narrator's real identity, and there's nothing that confirms, nor deny that Narrator and Lord Exo are the same or not, and it's just.. Out of place for the God Cube to be in a circus, it seems like it was put there rather than falling there, that's all I know about for this lore. (I know late commenting but I had to okay?)

Fun fact: the narrator from lunar overture is probably the one from trick or threat town, he talks about ever since we defeated lord sinister, hes been working behind the scenes on something.. this act is still just a nothing burger.

When they first teased about the event (aka the cube), everyone thought it was ANOTHER skin crate. So the comments were just them hating on the devs. It's kind of sad, really.

honestly on the topic of delays the first one was justified (the week long delay) with the fact one of the team members working on the game was hospitalized working on the event. the other times are simply because they keep putting a time on their heads. they dont just come out and outright tell the community "its ready when its ready. dont rush us, dont complain about delays, it'll release when we're fully ready for it." on the topic of the lore and gameplay. act 3 was god awful. apparently missing a cutscene meaning we're out of context for the event's closing act, unbalanced gameplay more focused on being hard, a promised "new gamemode" that never happened being just the same as duck hunt and violent night but with worse placement, and lore that overthrew acts 1 and 2. acts 1 and 2 felt like they were part of a complete story. it explained umbras rise to power and what she did with her army when she got it. all with hints along the way something bigger was at play other than just some narrator using a theater and a game style tds players are used to to tell a story. lunar overture brought so many great things to tds. however it reinforced the negatives of it. the death bell over the devs heads thats the deadline for events, how little care is taken for testing the event to make sure people can beat it, and just how out of touch belownatural and a bunch of the other devs are who work on tds are with their community. its genuinely sad tds got to this point considering i was excited to see what lunar overture would do when it was being teased. now i cant bring myself to get hyped for version 2.0.0

as a long time player of tds i can and will say indeed the events feel like they are getting worse compare this to the solar eclipse better content overall barely any bugs on release its just a little sad bugs are the main problem with events not the gameplay

Bro, the story was not good, it was out of place, it left me with so many questions. Its was literally a show bringing up a story-plot line, to then drop it after introducing to it. Also, I'm gonna add this point cause I had 2 ideas based on the teaser shown and act 1 coming out. And thinking it now, it would of made a more easier story to make then the one we had. When I first seen the teasers. I thought it was gonna be like either about Penumbra and the remaining forces of the Umbra come back and make one final attack, as we have help from a witch that told us about it. Having us fight Swamp Monster, a new boss, and Penumbra as the final boss, looking to seek revenge for the Umbra, concluding the Solar Eclipse story. And after act 1 came out, I then thought we play the villains as the Umbra uses her powers she gain from the god cube, and have us fight off the enemies she faces. An over the next acts, we see how the Umbra gain her powers and become person we saw in the Solar Eclipse event. As we fight creatures and monsters that once we defeat, join our side, and have the final enemies be human, with the map taking place that looks similar to Totality Tower, and the final boss being a human king, having all his forces charge at us, with the enemies that we defeated or joined fighting them off. Like the citizens back in 2020 Halloween event. But then that idea ended once we played act 2.

They had so much time its been almost a year since the winter update which was just duck hunt 2.0 which still was good beacuse duck hunt has cool mechanics but it didnt take much effort so they had now 11 months they made some cool skins but the acts were horrible act 1 was great then act 2 was ok but the lore fell apart and i believe act 3 had no cutscenes at all and we just killed some hands which were glitchy they should keep making events like the winter 2021 where its very simple to make but can still make a good event and experiment with the act based events when they learn to make it right beacuse they had 11 months and as you said and as everybody suspects the act 3 wasnt even finished but they had 11 MONTHS

While i do agree that this event has disappointed me to a degree(Act 3 as a whole since like you said its a nothing-burger, and it is mind you due to the bullshit that happened on it, i.e it being impossible to suddenly becoming piss easy), id still rank it a decent and actually ok to good event due to act 1’s story and act 2’s gameplay alone. A 6 maybe if i dare 7/10 event
