Genetic Limits is a new teachable perk from the Singularity. It seems like it was created to be a counter-weight to the strength of Made for This and other Exhaustion perks, but as you will see in this video, it's not very good at doing even that.

The thing is, Blood Echo would have been so good here, since they were all injured, but with Genetic Limits it almost did nothing to punish them staying injured.

Also Blood Echo would hit them with Hemorrhage, but this perk has no secondary effect.

​@@notOtzdarvaYou should try it with thanatophobia, fearmonger (so if they do gens they dont recover) and a slow down healing perk, it feels so nasty winning with this and then seeing everyone had an exaustion perk.

I think this perk would be more useful if the exhaustion effect applies when a survivor gains a health state (like if he get up by unbreakable it would apply the exhaustion)

I feel like that should definitely be how the perk works, currently there is no incentive to use it on most killers, but with that change it's suddenly so useful (Especially for Plague!)

I've gotten a survivor team with about the same build( all maxed) + medkits and toolboxes, on my FIRST match as Wraith. Also my 2nd match ever

i do love genetic limits, but i think what it should do is “whenever a survivor GAINS a health state, they suffer from the exhausted status effect for 32 seconds” instead of the current “finish the healing action”

That would make it better but it still has inbuilt anti-synergy because you need to chase healthy survivors there are perks like blood echoes or mindbreaker that exhaust injured survivors making them easy downs.

I've never played the game yet I still watch every single one of Otz's videos. Something about the way he sets up a premise and then explores it over the video and lets you come to your own conclusions is addictive to me.

The better strategy is to pair this perk with Fearmonger/Mindbreaker. This is because touching generators pauses the Exhaustion timer as well.

when this perk was revealed I honestly thought it was power-crept Septic Touch, but Septic Touch actually has a few scenarios where it blows Genetic Limits out of the water, like at 5:20

If they wanted to buff Genetic Limits to S tier, make it so completing a healing action doesn't heal instantly, but instead starts a timer to regain the health state, ala Stiptic Agent

@@Maitredebo2 Keep in mind survivors got a perk that gives them infinite toolbox recharges and another perk that gives them a free speedbost whenever they get injured AND endurance after they heal someone.

I find Fearmonger is just one of the better killer Exhaustion perks now. It used to be not that good because Dead Hard users didn't mind it that much, but a lot of these risky plays the survivors could only pull off because they had their Exhaustion perks still available to them while working on gens.

Yeah it's way better then it seems because if they use up their exhaustion and work on a gen it won't even fill up their bar, so it's the total gen time plus an extra 5 seconds plus their exhaustion recovery time, that they can't use their exhaustion. Against a solo q team the blindness also helps slow the game down a small bit

you missed one: people aren't going to heal right next to you, they're gonna heal someplace safe - and far away from your TR, which means good luck finding them in that 30 seconds.

I’ve been running genetic limits and fearmonger, so when they become exhausted their timer will pause when on a generator. So far it’s worked pretty good on my wesker

Adrenaline inflicts 40s of Exhausted, but this is not affected or increased by this perk at all. So no, I'm not ignoring it. I'm just saying it's a form of healing that does NOT get affected by this perk. You might as well not have it and it will be the same outcome.

Genetic limits basically requires Fearmonger in order to get any value whatsoever. It's just too easy to shed exhaustion by sitting on a gen. Ideally you'd also have an incentive for survivors to heal, either thana for slowdown or blood echo to lean into exhaustion (survivors that stay injured get exhausted), then throw in something like corrupt to help in early game. It's a pretty good build for some killers but it's quite literally the only way to get value from genetic limits.

From my experience I think the perk is decent. In most of my matches survivors will either bring a medkit or something to heal themselves along with an exhaustion perk (sometimes made for this but mainly like sprint burst or lithe) so I think of it as they have to decide whether to use their exhaustion perk but be injured or heal and not have it. The perk icon also looks pretty cool

i think a decent rework would be causing a vault speed debuff whenever you vault a window kinda like a opposite version of superior anatomy. Maybe this version of genetic limits could force survivors to slow vault windows and pallets for 10 seconds or so

in my opinion i think blood echo does a much better job by countering made for this but obviously these counters to BE like healing fast and other stuff like that, BE and GL often do well together and it helps a lot because how popular MFT is rn

Legion with Thanatophobia, Blood Echo, Genetic Limits, Purple Blade, and Jolt or another similiar perk. Thrilling Tremors would work, too. Imagine the painful stall game and guaranteed won chases. Bonus points for sending yourself to the meat plant. Tremors is insane on Gideon.

Genetic limits is a pair perk for Death Bound. It's literally the only use I can think of for it, other than a full exhaustion theme build

The biggest problem I have with Genetic Limits is it feels *way too similar to Septic Touch to me. It's not terror radius based and lasts longer in exchange for no blindness and not helping if you interrupt the heal. I feel like both perks are mediocre and cannibalize each other. In fact, I'm worried they will avoid buffing Septic Touch now because doing so would likely make it even more similar to Genetic Limits (the first thing that comes to mind for me is removing the terror radius aspect of Septic Touch).

Genetic limits is another perfect example of how incredibly oblivious behavior is to the state of their own game. it's very obviously a perk designed with the old medkit superheal meta in mind, despite the fact that that meta got deleted and made basically non-existent- a fact cemented further by the introduction of perks like Genetic Limits and Made For This which punish healing and reward staying injured respectively. It honestly feels like this killer was designed a year and a half ago, then was stored in a back closet somewhere and brought out to release only now because of delays in other departments or (more likely) bad executive decisions.

The perks this chapter are complete memes. Survivor get one of the best SoloQ perks right behind Kindred imo. A perk that rewards you for getting hit. And infinite toolbox recharges with barely any drawback. Killer gets a perk that's only useful with old medkits and old dead hard. A perk that's only useful vs flashlight squads and like the 3 killers that encourages you to group up. And a perk that rewards you for losing a very specific gen...for a whopping 30s.

Survivors now have status indicators for their teammates but when they add something for the killer like an indicator that the survivor is affected by invulnerability or exhaustion.

the “status” indicators were implemented to help solo-qing players get a better sense of what their teammates are doing .. whereas killers wouldn’t need any status indication because they’re already targeting a survivor to apply the status effect on. That would also mean killers would know when an unhooked survivor is no longer endured or affected by haste. The idea is all together a very poor idea but I see where you’re headed with this :)

As a Killer main, it always surprises me how often Survivors do not bother healing. In the moment I think to myself "wow they went back to the gen without healing, that's a silly mistake now I get an easy hook", and yet, the teams who heal the least are often the ones who get the most escapes. I made builds focused on slowing down healing and had horrible results. It sucks because I feel pigeon-holed into the meta slowdown perks Corrupt and Deadlock.

Agreed, I play a fair share of both and the feeling that healing seems almost completely fruitless in most circumstances feels wild. There being not much downsides if you just want to bullet down a gen, especially since people will still pack Resilience to be a little stronger in chase along with Made For This coming into the lime light to back up that thought process further.. Pretty much "counters" a fair share of killer's powers too. Insta downs end up being pointless since you'll drop in one anyway, and some maps have so many resources on them that it may be better to bait the killer into a long enough chase. The Game is especially guilty of having so many pallets in such close proximity that you can most likely run pallet to pallet, wrap around one time, then throw it and be safe for the entire match if your team is even somewhat competent.

Maybe instead of just putting exhaustion perks on cool down, add X number of seconds to their exhaustion cool down next time they use it. So, if they complete a heal, a gen, an unhook. The next time they use an exhaustion perk it is put onto cool down for much longer. Would fit the theme of the perk, allow survivors to still use their perks, and give the killer a tangible benefit that would show up later into the game.

I think it would be cool if they buffed it like it activates not only when healing but when stopping repairing or searching a chest or vaulting or any circumstance where any human can get exhausted, idk it would be cool to make this perk a little bit more usable

It's most efficient as a pressure point against healing rather than being a full on counter to exhaustion perks. I think it would pair very well with fearmonger as well. Basically forcing them to plan out gen progress to avoid being afflicted with constant exhaustion. On the flip side you can also take a couple perks that can counteract the aspects of staying injured like Thanatophobia. It creates a trade off if they refuse to or can't adapt to the exhaustion issues either way if paired right. It definitely doesn't do much on it's own though.

Hi Otz, I'm not as experienced as you are, and probably you have a better eye for these things, but didn't Claudette finish healing Gabriel at 7:34? that would make her exhausted by 32 seconds so just until 8:06, since she was running for the last seconds of that time, maybe she recovered while trying to blind you at 8:12. My point being, she shouldn't be exhausted when you downed her at 8:41. Paired with Fearmonger though, we would be telling a different story... 32 seconds exhaustion after healing and you can't do a gen? if you want to use your exhaustion perk? My silver ass thinks that's a big deal.

So ive only ever noticed genetic limits working on an anti exhaustion build on twins. Granted i couldn't tell if blood echo or genetic limits was working, but people were exhausted frequently enough that i know i shut down some made for this, sprint bursts, and lithes

i wish there was a perk that was simply: whenever a survivor goes to the injured state, he suffers from the exhausted status effect for 3 seconds until they heal themselves it would probably make septic touch, blood echo and genetic limits useless tho-

It wouldn't do anything about Adrenaline anyway because Adrenaline already gives exhausted? And any anti-healing perk would've looked awful in this game because they basically never healed. Even something like Sloppy would've only bought maybe a few more seconds, if it didn't instead push them to slam out gens instead of the one heal.

You're right but if you bring anti-healing and they don't heal, now you have Survivors exactly where you want them (injured). But if you bring an anti-Exhaustion perk and they can still use Exhaustion freely... what's the point??

They could make genetic limits trigger upon gaining any health states and the perk would still be low-mid level of usefulness. Fearmonger is my go-to exhaustion debuff perk because it fucks over sprint bursts just for doing gens.

I personally think that they should reduce the duration of Sprint Burst by a second or half a second. Then completely remove the speed boost from Adrenaline. A free health state is already strong enough.

I wouldn’t say it’s worthless. For solo que teams and less experienced ones I have had it come in clutch. But with made for this being so strong right now, there is less incentive to heal, especially at higher levels and very aggressive survivors. It would be better if the exhaustion effected you after an unhook or after any type of heal(ex. Adrenaline).

Genetic limit should be "if exhausted survivors lose a health state in your terror radius, this perk activates. While the perk is active for 60 seconds. All survivors in your terror radius suffer from the exhausted effect. OR all survivors cannot perform fast vaulting for 60s

Imo, they should make it work like fearmonger, where you get x amount of seconds of exhausted when doing any healing action, not a finished heal.

if this perk was going to be an actual thing you give up 25% of your perk capacity for in a game whose design actually works, it would trigger on any instance of being healed and inflict exhausted *permanently,* but it was never going to be something that actually matters - not with being so specific, not with being such a weak effect, not with that tepid duration

TBF when it comes to Genetic Limits as an idea- It was BOUND to be made. We have exhaustion on repairing, now we needed Exhaustion on healing. Idea as a "fix" for this perk, "When a survivor begins healing an injured (not downed) survivor that's above 67(66.666)% healing progress, the survivor suffers from the Exhaustion status effect for 32 seconds. Survivors that self heal are effected at 50% instead" since that actively rewards interrupting healing and running perks that synergize with seeing healing or healed survivors.

It would be dope if it was 40 seconds, and worked anytime a survivors health state changed. Injured or gained. This would also make it work on syringes. Preferably it would not work as soon as you were unhooked

Wouldnt it be better if Genetic Limits would pop on health state change? like getting injured, downed or healed up from those states. OR a 3% hindered for 15-20 sec after getting hit maybe?

It should be if a survivor is injured for 40 seconds they get exhausted for 40 seconds this would make it way easier to know when someone has the effect

One idea i had is slapping Septic Touch and Nurse's Calling (Sloppy can be interesting too) But yeah, i like the idea of Genetic Limits, but i can now see why it's not that good

well… it would certainly be fun if perks like Up The Ante and Claustrophobia became viable perks. There are no truly useless perks, but many which do not guarentee value. An Up The Ante could be the difference between a teammate suciding into an unhook and snowball to a win. A Claustrophobia could be the surprise perk that the killer uses perfectly or luckily to block a vault a survivor was planning on using, snowballing the game into a win. A Red Herring could be the difference between escaping through the hatch or wasting the killers time enough to secure the win. Predator could be the difference in losing an injured survivor to secure the win. This goes on. Even Furtive Chase could mean you walk into a Survivor on a gen for a free hit which wouldnt have happened otherwise, which could secure a win. Similarly, Poised can make the killer lose you and could secure a win. Like, there is genuinely no truly useless perk, they are just not consistent. It is possible to generate game-changing value with all perks in the game, but they are not guarenteed or consistent.

I think a nice potential rework idea would be something like call of brine and skill checks, but for heals Like missing a skill check while healing yourself or others leaves you broken for 32 seconds instead of exhausted if successful heal

it needs a buff to be like, made for this survivor perk. it should have a secondary affect! it should reduce survivors movement speed by 1% if they're near terrain.

I honestly always figured this perk sucked, I mean I didn't even bother trying it since I don't care much about applying exhausted, but it just seemed really bad anyways, as Fearmonger or even just Blood Echo would largely work better in the scenarios I can think of.

Regarding the random perk challenge, wait till you hear what I got for my random perk lineup. Mettle of Man, No Mither, Overcome, and Self-Care. I still finished the challenge, but I hate having to play cautiously. As soon as I spawned in, and heard my character moaning, the first sentence out of my mouth were: “Oh for fuck sake.” The second sentence after I saw the other perks: “Why do you hate me, BHVR? I buy skins, DLC, and all that shit. I may as well just castrate myself as that would probably hurt less than this match is going to.”

The big reason they lost this game I think was because they were so insistent on doing that gen. They and Otz fought over it from 3 gens to the end of the game, and that fighting let him get into chase easier, get way more pressure from hooks and let him hook and pressure the gen at the same time. I really think that with Prove, they could have just dispersed and went to a new gen, and they would have won the game with the 4 adrenalines.

Some Survivors do this a lot and I don't understand it as a gen jockey. They get so greedy for one gen and start making mistakes when they could easily split up and pressure 2 others at the same time.

Using it with Fearmonger is a way a different reality, since unless they want to not work on gens for 32 seconds to get it down to five instead.

well the problem is, people like to be injured rn because of made for this. so that’s why blood echo is a hard counter to this because if your exhausted u can’t get your haste. i would just go blood echo especially in this meta

Would be cool if it was a healing equivalent of Fearmonger, like it wouldn't necessarily be as good but would be nice (maybe)in slugging scenarios/healing interrupts

I feel like this perk can be nasty with builds around it. Imagine this w fear monger. Now either they wait an additional 32 seconds before doing a gen just to have a 5 second wait when they're done or make the time 37 seconds which would be hard to get use out of. Especially when they can't heal or do gens in that time. Maybe run it on wraith w sloppy and thana and now they all stay injured amd suffer huge penalties or can't use their exhaustion perks

Definitely a one scenario perk that gets blown away by blood echo and fearmonger. It really needs a secondary effect. Even if they added blindness i would still choose fearmonger over it...

There's also the fact of people healing on the other side of the map, and then going to sit on a gen, having the perk do nothing. What if they changed it so that after they finish healing, it doesn't activate until you initiate chase with them?

some perks are not working by themselves, only in synergy, i think this perk is just for set of exhaustion perks, maybe they should make it 45 secs or smthg, then u can keep surv always exhausted with this and another perks
