I'm an SC alum and I have to say it--ND's band was absolutely terrific that night. VERY sharp, great sound. Let's get them out here every other year from now on.

I really wish I was a student at USC when this game occurred. I'm in the Trojan Marching Band, and I've always liked seeing the Notre Dame Band. Our trip to Chicago was really fun this year, and hopefully Notre Dame's band can come back to Los Angeles next year so they can perform at the Coliseum again. That trip is understandably very costly, but if they can make it, I'm sure the majority of the USC fans will appreciate it.

I'm a Washington State fan, and I loved how the band played our song in South Bend, all in all a very classy university.

The Notre Dame band always salutes the opposing team and its fans by playing their fight song for them. The ND band sets the bar for class. The SC band is known for rather a different set of standards. Let's just call them "more contemporary." I'll take tradition and class, any day.

Playing the opposing team's fight song is a very classy thing to, especially in an era where poor sportsmanship is so common and accepted. See booing the Canadian National Anthem at NHL games.

I hate Notre Dame with a passion but i'll admit their band is good. I hate a lot of teams but admire their bands. The marching bands make college football games' atmosphere waaaay better than the NFL.

Playing another teams fight song is a show of class that used to occur in many college venues. I believe Michigan used to do it as well as some of the Southern schools. It is a show of respect for the host school, though in this case, the visitor played the host fight song. Good sportsmanship.

Thanks for your gracious comment. Fortunately for some of us Notre Dame folk, we are more interested in the performance of our band than our team -- otherwise that particular "match" (love it -- you must be British) would have been extremely painful. But as band fans, it was an historic performance -- first time ever at the Coliseum. Their sound is magnificent, the songs are long-held traditions, they take the field like a storm. For many of us, they are ND.

Only the best at Notre Dame!

As a courtesy. They always play the opposing team's song -- either to compliment their hosts or welcome their guests.

Lauren Nolan (center) was the 2008 head drum major. She did an awesome job! At the beginning of the pregame show, that's Aaron Hernandez on the left side of the screen. John Queally is on the far right. Aaron will be the head drum major for the 2009 band. He'll be awesome, too!

@GSJ61191 I'm sure the Irish Band will come to USC while you're there. I am in South Bend and my son was in the ND band in 2003. I hope you are doing well in the Trojan Band. I love it when USC comes to Indiana. Even though the football team doesn't do too well against USC, it's always a great day!

As a USC fan, I can't say that I hate Notre Dame. Rather I very much respect them. Yes, I do "not like" Notre Dame, but my very least is having the respect for the school and the rivalry between them and USC. The only schools I legitimately hate are obviously UCLA and Stanford, with a recently acquired hatred of Oregon.

@eringobragh91 Hey, I'm a little late, but you make it into the band? I hope so, it will be something you will never forget. My son was in the band in 2003.

If you have a comment about the football teams involved in the game at the Coliseum on Nov. 27, 2008, why not post it on someone's video of the game action. This is all about the marching band. Not football. Marching. Band.

They sound better than USC and like many schools are more disciplined too. I still love Tribute to Troy, but always wondered why USCMG got so much attention when there are better bands out there.
