thank you for this video. M. Atanassoff was a stunning dancer, with a very powerful personality, and i have to say it's the first time i see a partner who "eclipses" Sylvie. For the first time I couldn't stop watching the dancer instead of her. And what is really interesting too is to see the work Sylvie Guillem did, through years, how her dance became herself, and even her body, changed, she gradually became more and more Guillem. Thank you again.

I don`t think there is one video on youtube that has this powerful effect on anyone who understand and loves ballet. Miss Guillem is stunning as Esmeralda and I have no words to describe Mr Atanassoff`s performance as Quasimodo. Both are really telling the story there. She`s not trying to be seductive as most other ballerinas in this role. Just playful, kind and thankful for his protection. When you think how old he is on this video.... what a technique and what partnering!!! Thanks so much

@@Frenchmisto Japan very late j agree Guillem was a prodigious teenager j saw the first Guillem with Bejart also at Palais des Congrès-Paris in Guest with the kirov in " Beauty she was 19 y old also in Romeo at PDCONGRES ( yvette Chauvire was in font of me ) in Romeio Guilkem was 18 yo !! the first Juliette at Paris-Opera etc etc but after 30 y old j did not recognize her her Giselle in 2004 Théâtre du Chatelet no the best ! There are mostly the young Guillem on Y Tube but after less of videos it-s a fact

@@alainspiteri502 so? I was talking about this video… not her later career. In my understanding of the role of esmeralda, it’s a young woman unaware of her sexual appeal and her duet with Quasimodo is more like a game between two young people where she follows his guidance and completely trusts him, enough to fall asleep in his hands. Most ballerinas show this character as almost sexually aggressive… best I ever saw was Tamara Rojo who flew to Japan at the last minute to dance this same duet with Lienz Chen and the fact that she was unsure of the choreography and really was following his every steps made it look so beautiful and understandable for the audience

This is amazing, thank you for sharing. Both Guillem and Atanassof are extraordinary. It is amazing after all these years to see Sylvie at the top of her game and quite simply unequalled in her artistic integrity,the utter beauty of her dancing, her goût du rsque and the diversity of her repertory. By the way, Sylvie is reprising "Steptext" by William Forsythe in Florence at the Teatro Communale (10-13 June), a piece she has not performed for many years.

Dear Fabio Of course in my message I mean "after all these years and she is still at the top of her game" (today as we speak), one can just have to think of her Milanese Manon to see that she still has it, fully, totally. With regards to Roland petit I think there wasa problem between the choreographer and Sylvie when she refused some costumes for one of his ballets, or maybe there was more into that, but still it is a shame there was no further collaboration between the two.

I do NOT agree….have you read the book?? Esmeralda is 16 years old, and Guillem doesn’t look at all mature here….she’s playful and unaware of her sexuality, she’s not at all androgynous! You clearly know nothing about Esmeralda, and you must watch ballet to get turned on by the overtly female sexual roles or something.
