As a ND fan I think it’s fair where they are at. Between 4-6 ranks. If they beat USC by double digits they should pass Penn State who barely beat them in OT. So that would put what at a #5 seed in the CFP? Yes Our loss to NIU in week two was a hard pill to swallow and i thought for sure our season was over from that loss. But we can’t deny their body of work through the rest of this season has been incredible to watch. Totally man handling each opponent they’ve played. Our defense is playing at top notch I believe around 2nd to 3rd best in the entire country and our offense has greatly improved since week two. ND has been here close many seasons but depth wasn’t quite there. I believe We have a great shot to make a favorable run in this current CFP bracket this season.

Aa a ND fan, there isn't a single team in the tournament that causes me concern, the ND defense is nuts and the running game is stout with a decent supporting passing game. They are healthy and their freshmen have co.e in during blowouts and hardly missed a beat.

You are confusing the #5 ranking with the #5 seed. The 5 seed is the best possible spot. Ohio St has that pnow if they were the B10 runner up. ND would be the 7 seed, not the 5 seed. They have to displace Penn St to have a higher seed.

An opportunity is definitely there for the coveted 5+6 seeds. They play USC (obviously), who Penn State took to OT. If ND beats them solidly, they should be brought above Penn. That would give them the 4th ranking, which equates to the 6 seed. That being said, I would love to see ND vs SMU and then Texas in the first two rounds as projected here.

Notre dame in playoffs 2020 unfortunately ran into 2020 Bama. Bottom line they are not the same team as september ND who lost to NIU. They will be a tough out if they get past SC this weekend.

It won’t change for Notre Dame. Assuming they beat USC they’ll stay at #5 and the 7th seed. Nobody will jump them. If they lose to USC then they’ll probably drop out of the playoffs altogether.

If they crush Syracuse they’d could swap spots with ND. I think I’m right with that. And then it’ll be interesting to see what the committee does with ND after the conference championship games.

Notre Dame should play an extra game because everyone else will be playing championship games while Notre Dame takes a week off and other teams playing might get injuries with an extra game & are beaten and bruised. And playing in a conference championship means that the competition should be fairly equal.
