Offensive penalties is another problem that needs to be addressed by the Irish coaches. The Irish had a number of drives stalled due to having to deal with 3rd and forever in the Virginia game.

Leonard is still very inconsistent with his throws that being said his receivers have had some drops recently. Defensively the only weakness I see is run stopping consistently it’s not bad but teams with good lines and athletes will be able to run the ball on them. If Leonard somehow becomes more consistent in the next month this team could be a real problem in the playoff.

Leonard was on site yesterday. His wide receivers aren't catching easy balls. He hasn't been inconsistent. I maybe saw him overthrow some guys, but he was getting rid of balls.

@@Rickydemp2he’s been inconsistent he constantly overthrows guys now I will say his receivers have had some bad drops but he’s not accurate over 15 yards and there will be games he needs to complete some of those. He’s a solid playmaker but not a great passer by any stretch.

@ I'm afraid I have to disagree. You don't seem to be paying attention to detail. The drops missed with the flow of the game are to the point where he overthinks because he doesn't think that he is the problem the Wrs are, but he takes the blame and throws it another way. And the field goals seem to be more of a problem to me.

@@Rickydemp2oh trust me I’m paying attention to detail I’m just not blindly loyal to the faults of this team like some fans are. People don’t want to admit this team has faults and keeps beating the drum because they’re beating up on nobody’s and think that the faults won’t get exposed by better teams if they don’t clean things up. This team has the talent to go deep but they have enough faults that they could lose to SC if they don’t show up. This team isn’t going to beat teams by 20+ in the playoff if they can’t clean up the flaws.

The entirety of the passing game is going to be a huge problem. Pass blocking, poor QB accuracy along with under throwing almost every deep ball along with dropped passes. Keep in mind we lost 14-7 in the second half.

I think u and the ib show are some of the best in cfb when it comes to analyzing. Like I said against a more athletic.Faster team that performance on offense is not gonna cut it.That's why I said they're gonna have to probably rely a little more on a best part of the team which is their defense in special teams.I really believe that

That’s what people don’t fully understand the teams they’re playing are inferior athletically and in the playoff against the big 10 and SEC teams they won’t be able to make the mistakes they make against these teams and win.

@chrisowen3264 It's fax and the whole schedule has been littered with teams like this this whole year. when I looked at the schedule. I mean, you never judge a book by his cover. But they should have been undefeated with that schedule that they have. And honestly , I believe that defense is the best part of their team at least in the secondary but like I said , previously , when master begins a team with the same or better skill players in athleticism , we'll see how well they show up , but i'm not set myself up for failure

RL has to trust his guys & let tht thing fly earlier in his reads. Part of tht is pushing it downfield, part of it is trusting the catch is gonna happen; tht alone can fix alot of drop woes. The importance, clutchness, of this low output passing game's starting to get to the receivers. They're pressuring themselves because they understand the importance of each catch; compounded by they may not get another chance if they do drop. The more QB trusts himself & the WRs the more WRs trust themselves & the QB; it's a symbiosis

The answer is really easy: (1) The Irish have an athlete playing quarterback who really hasn’t improved in passing the ball. (2) The Irish wide receivers are a collection of JAGS. None of them are game breakers. Those are my two biggest concerns. Thank God for great running backs and a nasty defense.

The 2 biggest issues, to me, are dropped passes and penalties. I say dropped passes because of Leonard being inconsistent. I don't expect more from Leonard so its important that when the pass is there, the receivers have to catch it. The penalties are killing drives and it affects our 3rd down efficiency. When we play big teams, we'll have to be able to convert on 3rd down. Be better on those 2 and we score 10- 14 more points a game

Receivers have a lot of drops….and kicking….thought this too. Also thought Riley Leonard unfairly blamed for the many. Not perfect balls but good receivers should still catch. Too many teams have people can catch Riley throws

I am a big ND fan and have been for the better part of 50 yrs now and I have seen many high's and low's. Though this is MF third year and the year ND head coaches get a natty, MF will not. If ND wins their next 2 games they will not make it through the gauntlet of the play-off's. Riley Leonard is not a big game quarterback I am sorry to say and technically we are playing with our 2nd string offense. They are playing well now but the play-offs are the next level and I doubt that this years team can step up to that level. I pray they do but I won't lose any money by praying!

They’re gonna have to throw the ball if they’re gonna at least make it to the semifinals of the CFP. Right now they’re good enough to bully their way into the field, sure. Somewhere down the line though they’re gonna run into a team that can stop the run (OSU, Penn State) and are gonna have to get their passing game on track if they hope to get past them.

I think you’re grossly overstating how much better Leonard has gotten. He misses lots of open guys and makes bad decisions, often throwing into coverage. Zero chance of beating a Top Ten team with this level of inconsistency at QB.

I’d take ND over Penn St, Indiana, BYU or Miami and I don’t think there is a dominant team, possibly outside Oregon or OSU, so honestly I give ND a punchers chance against anyone else

But I’m not sure we’d beat even those teams, though, if he misses wide open guys or throws into coverage repeatedly. Having had the benefit of poor opposing quarterbacks has lessened the pressure to succeed on almost every possession. And those teams, as overrated as I agree they are, have QBs way better than Virginia’s and Louisville’s, so Leonard just won’t have the luxury of do-overs granted by self destructing opposing offenses.

Defensively, no concern for me, offense will see better defenses than Virginia and Army, they've progressed, but against say..and Ohio State or Oregon or Georgia defense, that pass game ain't gonna work.

ND plays Sat night in NY. The team won’t be back in South Bend until 2am. They then need to turn around and head to the West Coast. Add to the fact the ND game is all that USC has left to play for and it isn’t hard to see an upset happening.

wait wait wait….ND has won by 20+ on every game…defense has killed it…how do we knock ND every year when theyre killing it when the number 1 team only won by 3 points in a very low scoring game…ND is also THE top defense for points against…yes the defense gets turnovers but the offense has to go out and put the points up….total offense was 400+ total yards…there is nothing in their way to get all the way to the national championship…
