I wouldn't call Notre Dame overrated. You gotta expect struggles in the first game from most teams. A little sloppiness. Plus Louisville looks to be a little better than last season...really can't get any worse from last season. They literally (players admitted it) gave up last season and quit for Petrino. New positive vibes are around now.

B- game from ND. Louisville had a horrible season last year, but are still a talented enough team, so I wasn't expecting a huge blow out. But ND on offense looked shaky, and the team overall looked inconstant.

ND's has good edge rushers and they do make plays in trenches. However, the LB play(reads, gap control, tackling) was not good. #14 Hamilton needs to play more! The pass D is fine and should be with pride,gillman,elliot returning. The ? was who would replace julian love at CB. Seeing Shaun Crawford playing well might just save ND in a few games this year. Guy has missed 2 seasons to injury and he was great. Folks who don't follow the irish closely don't realize how important he will be to their chance for success, Stay healthy sean and keep flying to the ball and open field tackling. I was surprised to see book be so unsharp for so long with the pass. Even some the completions were poor thrown low and behind receivers. They do have 2 WR's out and a TE out so when they get back they have more of a deep threat. Overall, book made decent decision making when plays weren't there. They need a power runner for those 3rd and short running situations. Jones won't be the answer in those situations. Great punting and coverage teams by the irish. It can be overlooked, but it is so important in a game where your offense struggles, but doesn't have turnovers. It gives the Defense a chance to bend some without breaking. Honestly, some of ND's stops on D weren't so much them as Louisville beating themselves with bad snaps and stupid dead ball penalties.

Irish defense clamped after the first two drives. ND outscored LOU 28-3 after the Cards got the lead. Sure it wasn't impressive and Book looked very underwhelming, but Tony Jones Jr. and the run blocking still looked terrific. Can't play like that vs Georgia but after a tuneup with NM, they'll be ready for em'.

The run blocking did look excellent.....except for the 2 3rd and short situations ND got stuffed. It's not all on the OL though. WTF is Kelly running out of the shotgun on 3rd & short? Get underneath center, get low & call a QB sneak. ND converts those 2 3rd & shorts and the final score is much different.
