This little piece of France is surrounded by water. 350 kilometers of coastline that bring this Normandy territory to life, at the mercy of the tides and storms. But, since 2010, extreme phenomena have been multiplying and damaging the western coast of the peninsula. It is the most exposed to the assaults of the sea. Between erosion and marine submersion, towns like Gouville-sur-Mer, Agon-Coutainville or Blainville-sur-Mer are trying as best they can to remain masters of the place, for others, it is necessary to hold on and dig in their heels at all costs! The reflection is underway and, if the elected officials and the State follow through with their plans, the Cotentin could be a reference, a pioneer in France for this new policy that the government wants to implement.
A more resilient policy, like the whelk fishermen who have chosen to establish quotas to limit their impact on the resource. Warming waters pose serious threats to the reproduction of this mollusc, the flagship product of Granville Bay.
