My thoughts are that the song is about impressing a guy to like them , having a crush and getting them to like you , and baking a cookie for them like (hey I baked this for you ) they’re also talking about flirting and making them come to you , but meanwhile, they’re talking about their crush they also continue the dessert theme with brownies and chocolate to create a strange symbolism to impress the crush and keep the creativity but it does sound sus from a western culture pov

People are being intentionally obtuse the song is suggestive, of course you can explain away to make it more appropriate, that is definition of an innuendo. Like that's the whole point of innuendo the double meaning. Like y'all stating its a mistranslation but like it IS an Innuendo. That's the point you can take it innocently at face value but you know it has connotations. Like next y'all gonna tell me Milkshake by Kelis and Ice Cream are only about milkshake and ice cream... sure Jan. Like of course you can say it's just about the music but it's playing on the suggestiveness. Like it's not explicit, but given the who issues surrounding their age and their creative direction it raises some eyebrows a bit

Its funny because Koreans don't think it's sexual. There is something lost in translation here maybe. Still as a westerner myself, I can't get over the sexual nature of the song and the songwriters must have known how this would sound to western ears.

Korean people thought "Bicycle" by Chungha was about riding a bike soooo....they obviously do not understand the innuendos, but many are written in English, the meaning simply makes NO sense if you're saying it doesn't have a suggestive meaning in Korean because it's not written in Korean. There are also people on Reddit who speak Korean disagreeing that the lyrics are cute. Point being, it's obviously either coming off exactly how the writers intended it to or it's controversial in a misunderstanding-way and either one is not good.

Bake in Korean is 'ppang gubgi'. Burning CD in Korean is 'gubgi CD'. Both use similar sound of 'cookie'. That's why a cookie roll in at the beginning & a CD roll out at the end. Cookie in asian culture simply means baked dough. It is no fault of Koreans that it carries sexual undertone in the western culture. Just like Korean 'nae-ga' means I. It is no fault of Koreans that it sounds like the 'N' word used in the western culture as slur against black people. People bashing NewJeans are either ignorant or opportunists wanting to eliminate them from competition against other rookies. The world is a better place when people stop looking through coloured lens at other cultures.

For those who misunderstood Cookie To explain it one by one I made a paragraph for your reference. “Made a cookie” referring to the song “Softer than a brownie” here refers to the song attention which has a soft like chorus “Living in ur head rent free” the songs being very addictive and always stuck in our heads. “Made a cookie” a song for the crush “Pick ur poison” here refers to Either replicating the feelings back or having them rent free on their mind ( the crushes mind ) “I’ll melt ur heart away” back to the first line “Made a cookie” they will melt his heart away with the song. “So good yeah” has 2 meanings the songs they made for him and them being able to melt their heart ( with the song ) Reference from first part of the song “it ain’t for free” it’s not free as they want the crush to like him back, “if you want it , u can get it” it’s like they are confessing their crush to the person, but he needs to confess ( replicate the feelings back) for more songs. “Looking at my cookie” looking at the cd that had their song, “the sent alone will make u see it” the curiosity will make him come back them for listening to the song “Taste it” is like a filler reference since u can taste actual cookies ( the ones u eat) They mean that they want their crush to have a taste of their love for them( the crush) . “You can’t stop at one bite” since they baked a song the crush can’t just take one look at it, but the crush needs to also listen to it as well. And lastly, “Cookie” passed the broadcasting stage meaning they can perform this song on all shows so if you see something wrong with these lyrics it’s on YOU.
@rxynecloud2 жыл бұрын
its not suggestive at all, they explained that its a fan song that they wrote and the things that people are taking as innuendos just aren't its more innocent and literal for example: "looking at my cookie, the scent alone will make you see. You cant stop at one bite with me." theyre talking about a literal cookie it just doesnt translate well.
@xyzopa73242 жыл бұрын
It translates perfectly. You guys are so blinded by your need to shield the girls you'd let these adults get away with this. This song was originally written in English by a foreign writer and then adapted to Korean. You sit there and say it's not suggestive at all when literally every non-Korean is being shocked by how blatant the sexual innuendo is. They're literally addressing the song directly to a boy and saying things like come over to my house, I want to see you taste it and you think there's no problem here?

Because songs like this and them showing their face while singing this is just plain wrong, you'll find pedo's going to meet & greets and NJ (newjeans) will be portrayed as "sensual" or something like that if yk. And creeps will think of them like that. Which is problematic for the 14 year old. BUT its not because of the lyrics , like idc if a 10 year old it sings or understands it. like that's no big deal people learn about that stuff youngggg-(especially nowadays). But the aftermath of this can be very bad ofc! I will and will always listen to this song because its a bop. I will not tolerate them doing performances of this song , or just promoting it.
