this was a good episode. Liked how they reinvented Gladstone Gander, he has more character in this than in the comics than just... very lucky
@Serryy3 ай бұрын
I mean Gladstone's character depends on which comic you read. Sometimes he's sympathetic but oblivious to fact that others regularly face hardships. Sometimes he's arrogant. Sometimes he envies others for their bad luck since he's bored of all the luck he encounters every day.
@danielwilson86043 ай бұрын
he's also been shown to be so lazy that he won't even reach up to grab a balloon hovering right in front of his face to win a contest, saying if it was the winning baloon it'd come down to him. scrooge flat out refuses to let him be his successor over this.
@Purpylon3 ай бұрын
In the comics both Gladstone and Daisy are awful. Gladstone just buys Diasy's affection, and Daisy uses both men for her own gains.
@Serryy3 ай бұрын
@@Purpylon Again, it depends. There are so many comics that dont really follow continuity.
@lucasmorais76462 ай бұрын
@@SerryyGladstone is rarely not arrogant though. How rotten and selfish he is depends on the comic but he is consistently someone who loves to flaunt his good fortune and infuriate Donald. Sometimes he is indeed more playful and less smug about it but he knows he doesn't deserve it. I think Ducktales 2017 managed to strike a good balance.

Scrooge is actually Donald's uncle, not his gruncle. Scrooge's sister, Hortence McDuck, is Donald and Della's mother. Considering Scrooge is modeled after gilded age industrialists like Andrew Carnegie, this made more sense in the 40s, but this show has to play fast and loose with the timeline. Gladstone Gander is actually only related to Scrooge through marriage. He is the son of Daphne Duck, who is the sister of Quackmore Duck, Donald and Della's father and Scrooge's brother-in-law. So he's Donald's first cousin on his father's side.

See, there's a reason that when Rick Riordan modernized the Lotus Eaters myth in Percy Jackson (aka they ate lotus flowers that turned them into apathetic addicts who couldn't think about anything except eat more lotus), he made into a casino. Also, Gladstone's predicament is sort of similar to the Twilight Zone episode, "A Nice Place to Visit"

The way this ep portrayed gambling is actually genious. There r so many educational social campaigns abt how bad it, how it ruins people's lives. Yet those campaigns usually fail to take into account a very interesting thing abt us a species: our irrational belief that we can somehow go around the statistics, that we can be unaffected by it. This ep solves this problem by basically showing us as viewers that winning at casinos and basing our life solely on luck would suck even if we did manage to "trick" the statistics. It would take away our ability to manage our own life, would trap us in our luck. In other words, this ep teaches us that there is no such thing as a happy gambler.

a fun thing on floor plans designed to keep people inside as long as possible, playing on the subconscious, the calmer colors are deeper in and the carpet may have a pattern on it that simulates a slope, the "downhill" slope illusion going towards the center of the casino (or towards the more expensive areas but not THE most expensive...the most expensive is for high rollers and does the opposite trick of making it feel more exclusive so the high rollers feel more special and spend more time there as "honored guests").

Gladstone Gander is a character from the comics. He also made a few appearances in the 87 series. Out of the two shows, the 2017 version is the most accurate. A spoiled rich guy who earned everything because of luck and you don't feel much sympathy for him, compare to poor unlucky Donald. In a way, the Launchpad plot will be revisited later.

This series really does a great job with everything, and its deconstructions and reconstructions of certain elements are very meaningful. For example, this episode deconstructs Donald's bad luck. Yes, we get a good laugh out of his antics, but we also see how that affects his self-esteem. And then it reconstructs it into showing in spite of his bad luck, his determination and love for his family keeps him going long past when most people would give up.

The casino thing is very true, they also don’t have any windows or clocks so you can’t tell how long you’ve been in there. Not sure if they still do this or if they’re allowed to anymore but when my uncle when to Las Vegas years ago some casinos even pumped oxygen into the rooms too! This kept people energised so they’d keep spending money and was also another way to stop them from realising how long they’d been in there because they wouldn’t get tired. My uncle and his friends literally stayed in the same casino for a WHOLE DAY on their trip because of this!

Old fogey time; Gladstone was in the old duck comics, not as much in the old Duck Tales cartoon that I can recall, but his luck gag, especially the finding a twenty dollar bill, was especially big back then, back when a chocolate bar cost a nickel *and I mean a big chocolate bar* and a dollar got you into the movies. Penny candy stores were a thing, so yeah a child frequently finding twenty dollar bills was a huge stroke of luck in those old comics.
