I found back in 1985 with my GARETT GROUNDHOG METAL DETECTOR 27 gold double eagles dated from 1852-1859 in a abandoned travel canal 10" in the mud. They are in excellant condition and I still have them. They are valued at 350,000 dollars totaled.

It’s about time those old woods have up the silver. So glad you found it! You know, back in the day, people would hide “treasures” along rock walls, so they could remember where it was by choosing a particular rock. Good luck!

Thanks! I just wanted to thank you again for getting me into this wonderful hobby. I lucked out with an eight silver coin spell last year just dimes in quarters. But 2 weeks ago I door knocked at 1780's house. And my buddy dug up a 1776. 2 real last week. I never had so much fun doing a hobby before.

My best day and best hour was three very nice 14k rings, one with a diamond, in the fall of 1996 at a boat landing swimming area on Toledo Bend Lake. They had lowered the lake to work on the dam. I found the three rings and a 14k earring plus 18k gold rim glasses in under 40 minutes. Two of the rings were very large, wide and thick, and the diamond ring was thick for its size. I was using a Radio Shack Bounty Hunter detector with target ID, tones, manual ground balance, and all metal threshhold mode. It was a miracle detector to me after using old 1970s Whites clunkers. Target ID that WORKED?! I was amazed! I wore it out and had to make several repairs to keep it going. It could detect very tiny bird shot but only had a 7 inch coil. It could vacuum up shallow quarters at parks and baseball fields using a screwdriver digger but just wasn`t deep enough for silver. A larger coil and headphones could have done it though I believe. I found a lot of rings with it and enough coins daily to buy smokes, gas and beer. On several trips I found 15 to up to over 20 dollars in coins, usually quarters, sometimes rolls of dimes, in an hour...baseball fields, parks, fairgrounds, boat landings, gravel parking lots in front of bars, festival grounds and an 80s school that burned were some of the places where I found that many coins in one hour.

There are Grail's to chase and Grail's to find. Thanks for letting us tag along while you find your first silver Dollar. It was fun to listen as you tried to restrain yourself. We get excited too, for you especially, because many of us cannot be there. My Dad used metal detectors through the 80's-90's. He and a friend specialized in searching Civil War camping areas for soldiers ... at places the soldiers camped before the battles. They must have walked 1,000 miles. He spent the better part of 2 decades on his knees holding his breath chasing the beeps with a detector. If he were there with you he would have been just as excited for you as anyone could be. I think of him every time I watch you.

Strange that you found an 1890 silver dollar right next to a 1953 dime. Maybe two spills in the same area? Silver dollars were not very highly in circulation in '54. Maybe a "lucky" silver dollar? Interesting, but unanswerable, but a great find, in any event.

Try Detecting in the old gold camps/ towns of the Boundary country in BC. Probably 75% of the miners were American's from 1860-1900. They all used American silver dollars as Canada wasn't producing silver dollars at the time, and miners didn't trust paper currency. So even the Canadians were carrying American coins. Try hunting around Rossland, Nelson, Cascade, & the Phoenix area. Also Rock creek, & Midway areas are good too. These places have produced countless silver dollars over the years. You also have a decent chance of finding gold and or platinum nuggets while looking for coins.

Silver Dollars were available at banks until 1964. They did not normally circulate. My grandfather dug up a 1794 cent in his backyard. From it's wear,I would guess, that it was dropped around 1800. It was found back in 1912. My gramps gave it to me when I started to collect coins in 1958. I still have it. Extra Fine but with some corosion. Not too valuable except to me.

A maroon community refers to a group of formerly enslaved Africans and their descendants who gained their freedom by escaping from chattel enslavement and seeking refuge in remote mountains or dense tropical terrains near plantations and Native American areas. These communities are found across the Americas, the colonies consisting of those that were enslaved, and force bred repeatedly through incest by natives are severely deformed and large with abnormal amounts of body hair coupled with a strong Oder from digestive tumors and pustules. These poor souls have faced extreme discrimination, often called big foots or sasquatches in an attempt to dehumanize them. What you have uncovered is evidence of their divestment of items they no longer understand or have need of.

That silver dollar man that is such an awesome feeling , I remember when I found mine , I had a site on the spot of the battle of Greenwich church really nice old lady she was 86 her mom lived there her whole life and her grandmother so much history and over the years they had burn piles in the yard which you would hit a signal and dig up burnt metal , I had walked over this one spot probably 100 times and I had an old white xlt that I loved and I put it in coin mode with some modifications and first target said 1 dollar a screaming 93 when I open the hole I just sat in amazement at its beauty man ! Awesome my man keep on keeping on !

That is a rather strange coin find. The two dimes are close enough in date to be carried in a pocket, but an 1890 Morgan is way out of any expectation to be in that same pocket. Nice find.

Also, it helps if you use your pin pointer to lock onto the target before you dig. This helps you not hit the target with your shovel. The coil isn’t always perfect at locking onto the target. A large X over the target is enough to determine exactly where it is. Set it to level three. Push the button to lower sensitivity if it’s closer to the surface, but it should detect the target pretty deep.

Kids i think. all coins in the same hole different dates. Maybe they got in to Dad collections lost them at or after 1953. Long stretch of time for cabin guy to hoard all those different dates for coins unless it was more than one generation of family strange. I found something similar coins within a 1899 v nickel and a 1936 buff and Indian or two in between that era and the prize in the middle 1902 barb half dollar so it does happen again always strange when your trying to figure out how. Very nice Morgan you are definitely having a good year so far
