Seems weird seeing this video, I used to live in Snape Wood, and the 82 was the only bus I could catch. At the time, I nicknamed it 'the dumping ground' as it was always the old stuff that turned up, but now everything's plastic, I realise how lucky we were lol. My fave clip there were the two L reg Volvo Olympians on Snape Wood Estate near the end. Unfortunately I moved out the area just before the tram started so missed out on travelling on them everyday. I made sure I caught them though....

loverly stuff, ive lived in nottm since 1986 and remember all this - the volvo's in paticular, now what would make my day is seeing those nice leyland national's along with the atlanteans :) good work!

Its been a long time since seeing these buses. I used to know all the models shown by coachbuilder and engine. My all time 2 faves were the Volvo Alexanders at the beginning and i used to like the slow but characterful Leyland Atlanteans (didnt see any featured here). But I also liked the later squarer alexander bodied Volvos, and the Scanias (which looked similar but were very quiet i remember, apart from at idle while in drive, then they would shudder like crazy, and the Optare and ELC Volvos/Scanias were game changers. low floors and quiet. The last bus here ELC Volvo didnt have a very big low floor and was soon phased out with later ELC Dennis buses even tho they seemed well built inside they were a bit unreliable and had low ceilings. I still see Silverdale using some. But they were awful. Noisy, gutless to pull off, chucked loads of smoke out the back and the large bifold doors were slow to open and used to smash against the bulkhead as the driver opened them while pulling to a halt! Then replaced with the current and very long Scanias which have been good but are also now being slowly phased out for the new Enviro 400 buses. cant remember what coachbuilder they are.. ELC / Dennis?

Alexander Dennis. Which are i think basically scanias anyway.

Ash Hammond. Those Volvo Olympians were really well built buses. Shame they went. But modern buses are something else now. The new BioGas bus is a game changer and i hope more companies use vehicles like that in the future.
