@M. Ramamurthy, Somehow Nottu swarams have not found favour with Carnatic singers since decades for some obscure reason. They felt like adopting mandolin, keyboard, guitar even iPhone app, Geo Shred as performing instruments alright but as a genre of art form, this great music format has not found favour despite its brilliant auric appeal as in this case. On the same count, a young Bengali vocalist's effort in wireframing Mozart Symphony in Indian classical format also hasn't been accepted too with its due credit. It is very much taught... We learnt 5-6 nottuswarams by Deekshitar. There was also a nottuswaram by Thyagarajar that we learnt

Classical music is seats layavans manodharma .you can find the music of whole universe in that Madurai Mani Iyer, kunnakkudu vaidyanathan childish, balamurali ..you can remember hundreds of kalaakars doing it purandara dasa in the syllabus he invented included it for students
