In this video, we will tell you everything you need to know about the Nova-C lander, also known as Odysseus, a private lunar lander that was launched on February 15, 2024, as part of a historic mission to deliver science and technology payloads to the lunar surface. This mission is not only the first US lunar landing in over 50 years, but also the first to use a liquid methane and liquid oxygen-fueled engine in spaceflight. We will also show you some of the stunning images of the Earth that the lander captured shortly after its launch, and explain what they reveal about the lander’s design and performance. This is a new odyssey to the Moon, and you don’t want to miss it.

There aren't any because this video was published two days ago, and Odysseus landed yesterday at 6:23pm Eastern Time (2323 GMT). The widely anticipated video and stills from the lander's "EagleCam," which was deployed prior to Odysseus' landing, haven't yet been released. Once they are available, they'll show the external perspective of Odysseus in the final seconds of landing.

Wow, so now we're celebrating something that the U.S. achieved almost 58 years ago when Surveyor 1 successfully landed on the moon way back in June of 1966. All this Odysseus mission has proved is how little our country has progressed in the last half century. We successfully landed five spacecraft on the moon between June 2, 1966 and January 10, 1968. That is a statistic we simply won't be matching anytime soon or ever.
@Amradar123
@Amradar123 3 ай бұрын
This time it is small commercial company, not NASA with its huge 1966 budget. Why do you not count it the manned landings between 1969 and 1972? NASA and Roscosmos focussed on learning on how to live in space with the Salyut, MIR, and now ISS program. NASA now only receives 0.48% of the annual budget and is therefore limited in its efforts .

In a nod to the deniers out there, as the lander approaches the surface, it will spit out some cubes with high precision cameras, intentionally tumbling and impacting close to the lander. The lander will collect the images and send them down to mission control who will stitch them together to produce a stabilized video. So, we will be able to "see" the landing... FROM THE OUTSIDE!!! OK, That is cool.

What I like about this is that now you could probably create a way to actually live on the moon for short about the time which is the cold part. I don't know about the cold part. Then we gotta really rule the worlding for like a long time to how it's gonna like freeze up that machine. That's there. Wow, cool, though. Gotta listen to the speech that John kenndy, the speech he give explain why it must always going to be inspiring. Where you gonna go to the moon? He said not because it's easy but does it hard? I guess my point is that I've only lived 55 56 years right? And look at what we've done outside of the planet within that small amount of I mean, how many other people in the past consider it seemed this kind of technological. Gigantic, sleep, you know I always think about what John Glenn says. One small step for man, 1 giant leap for Mankind. You're making that happen they're making that happen so cool so very cool

We landed on the moon in my birth year 1968. Every time that I see us go back to the moon. It just makes you feel like you know what it's there for a reason. Let's go to see what else we could do with it. Besides, just something you know that keeps the Earth from whatever doing. I think the best part about the moon is it's covered. @TD_YT066

It will be in darkness and extreme cold for weeks. The batteries onboard can't keep it warm for that long and the electronics and other parts will be damaged by the cold. It only carries just enough propellant to land. To take off again would mean it would have to be more than 2x bigger and heavier and then that means more propellant to carry. The LOX/Methane are very efficient, but will boil off in the trip out to the moon and Lunar day so it had to take a direct flight to the moon and not orbit around and use the mass of the moon and earth to change it's orbit.

@wokelion1573 Why would the camera float away? The moon has gravity you silly 😊 The Embry-Riddle Eaglecam is a is a cubesat-sized payload designed to capture the first-ever "third-person" image of a spacecraft making a lunar landing. Eaglecam, developed by students at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, will spring-eject from Odysseus about 100 feet (30 meters) above the lunar surface. It will take three images a second from each of its three cameras (a total of nine images a second), capturing its six-second freefall to the surface and Odysseus’ descent and soft landing.

Cool music is amazing. I'm inspired to see all these technologies being tested on the moon. I am assuming that the module left behind on the surface after only a short premier of use is due to factors such as the economy of refueling vessels to escape the gravity field and the cost and complexity of such a feat to the corporate investors. This commercial space exploration is Fascinating content!! Ty

It is NOT the first time we would be on the moon ! From 1969 to 1972 12 brvwe astronauts have set foot on the moon with the Apollo missions! They havew been passing the Van-Allen-Belt in their spacecraft without any problemns with radiation etc. Firmament means heaven right ? The rockets can go very well up into space within ca 8mins, so no problem. Watch rocket launches and you will see how they can go through the atmosphere of earth.

@ 1:29 I posted to the twitter page that this is not a real picture that they claim it to be. You can see the reflection of the separation module reflecting in front of earth. How is that the only reflective object, with all the claimed space junk floating around. No satellites or stars out there neither. There is no atmosphere to distort camera. Also that famous pic from moon landing with no stars and only a pic of earth? If it was bright enough to not focus stars, you wouldn't see the earth neither.

No. Space is BIIIIG. The density of space debris is very low. Low Earth Orbit, spanning an altitude range of about 200 to 1500 km, has a total volume of around one trillion (1012) cubic kilometres. As of early 2010 the current orbital space object density (>10cm in size) in LEO is approximately 10-8 per cubic kilometre. Satelite density is even lower. The Earth is bright so the exposure time is too low to show the faint stars. Can you photograph stars during the day? No 😊

Doesn't the same side of the moon always face earth?
@TD_YT066
@TD_YT066 3 ай бұрын
Yep, it's Tidally Locked , so when it's a full moon, the side facing Earth is fully lit and the far side is dark. As it orbits the earth and gets closer to the sun, the far side is lit and the side facing earth , but not the sun is dark. Some light is reflected from the earth at times, so it's not totally dark.

Yes. Which means that when the Moon is between Earth and the Sun, and the craft is on the side closest to the Earth, it is in darkness (the Moon is blocking the sunlight). It is only when the Moon is farther away from the Sun than the Earth that it can get sunlight on the Earth facing side.
@dsuth

Yes. The moon is tidally locked to the Earth, which means that the moon rotates once on its axis in the same time it takes to orbit Earth, about a month.
