Novak Djokovic breaks silence over Covid vaccine refusal - BBC News

Tennis star Novak Djokovic has said he would rather miss out on future trophies than be forced to get a Covid vaccine.
Speaking exclusively to the BBC, he said he should not be associated with the anti-vax movement, but supported an individual's right to choose.
The Serbian was asked if he would sacrifice taking part in competitions such as Wimbledon and the French Open over his stance on the vaccine.

Mr. Djokovic is an inspiration to those threaten by the loss of a job, education, or travel restrictions. In June of 2021, I lost a 49-year-old cousin, a man preparing to go on a Hawaiian honeymoon with his second wife, a man who had a fatal heart attack due to a massive blood clot. Travel to Hawaii was very restrictive, authorities demanding vaccination or a ridiculous testing regime. I am sure my cousin complied and now he is gone. Then I lost another cousin within 6-months, a cousin who "died suddenly." Then there were two otherwise healthy women, women who regularly attend my gym's spinning classes. 4-months ago, one discontinued her workout mid-way, hurrying to the women's locker room be cause she felt like vomiting, she actually experiencing a heart attack. We advised her to immediately seek medical attention and she relented. Later that evening she had a stent installed to relieve a LAD blood-clot, eventually a pacemaker. A few weeks ago it was sadly announced that the other woman past away Easter of a fatal heart attack due to a blood clot. Although these women were not gym rats, they were both the picture of health. Many would suggest these are mere coincidences, but I have never witnessed anything like this before. Finally, another woman, in the same gym class, boasted that she had received her second booster. I said nothing, all I can do is pray. Dear God.

@Mac Everyone physiology is different some people thrive on a non meat diet and others do not. There are extremes at either end of the spectrum who cannot eat meat and the opposite who need an all meat diet to survive. Novak just said that he would be willing to forego being the greatest player of all time just to avoid the vaccine! To me, that doesn't add up. To a degree I agree…and I have huge respect for Novak. However, Novak has the ‘resources’ and backing to support himself and his loved ones no matter how ‘they’ try to sanction and penalise him…and whether or not he ever plays in another competition he will always be recognised as a world leader in his sport…and rightly so…he has earned his status through hard work and commitment to his sport. It's not really a principle, it's a whim, that's why we are shocked. If it was principle then he would refuse stuff injected into his body that is much more controversial than vaccines. Unless I am mistaken and Novak was never operated on? Never got an anesthetics? The point is the arbitrariness of his decision. He has the right to have his whims, but usually we tolerate other people's whims at best, mock them at worst. Reporter is far from mocking him, he is just incredulous, but other people are actually praising him for it. An upside world we live in.

Bojan Dolinar: There is nothing 'arbitrary' about refusing a medical procedure one doesn't need. There are certain medical procedures that are clearly necessary and whose benefits clearly outweigh any potential risks. The Covid jab is not one of them- not for Djokovic anyway. He has already had the virus twice and has natural antibodies.
