39:10 Ive 10 guitars. I did have 14 but sold a few. No QC issues with my Solars. There was a run where fretboards had issues but all brands made in that factory including Solar during that run had issues too. The internet being what it is blew it up. I have no qualms about buying more Solars once my health improves. I have the only Sun Dew Gold Ibanez Pia in NZ id like to sell. Ill take $NZD8500 for it. Buyer organises shipping

Hi Brad, December Q & A question. I always chuckle at your dislike of axial capacitors with their generally shitbox specs for the price vs radials. This got me down the rabbit hole of electrolytic capacitor life. Have you ever experimented with adding fan cooling into amps to reduce the ambient temperature and extend their life or effort not worth the outcome? There are some quite cheap, quiet, drop in setups designed for PC's.
@PeterMoore35012 күн бұрын
Yeah I asked a few questions! Wasn’t sure if there was a limit 😊The noise from the GMD40 i mentioned when not leaving it in standby is kinda like listening to to AM radio when there’s lightning around except much much fainter. It goes away eventually. EDIT: I only really notice it in full 40W mode. The amp is usually only in 1 or 5W mode due to apartment living. I will leave it in standby in 40W mode occasionally then power it on and it seems fine.
@BradsGuitarGarage12 күн бұрын
All good, mate! It was great fun to field everybody's questions. So you're saying you only get the noise when in "play" mode and it's louder in 40W mode? Does is persist when unplugging the guitar cable from the input of the amp or when the guitar volume is set to zero?
@PeterMoore35012 күн бұрын
@@BradsGuitarGarageyep only in play mode. Most noticeable in 40W, but I will hear it in 20W if I come straight out standby without letting it warm up
@PeterMoore35012 күн бұрын
@@BradsGuitarGarageok I switched the amp into full 40W and tried guitar volume zero and then i pulled the input cable out the amp and the noise is there. Faint but there. I asked about power conditioning as possible issue EDIT its there in 1W mode too. I had get right up close to the cabinet to hear it though

Some of the power points in my apartment are dodgy at best.

Hi Brad , great stream and views. Question for December Q & A . Is Resistor Voltage Rating (Max Working Voltage) an and important consideration when choosing Plate Load and Screen resistors. Some metal film 1/2W only have 200V rating which would be under many pre-amp supply voltages, (Carbon Film seem to offer a higher Voltage rating for the same power). Are the ratings AC or DC specific ? ( my understanding is 350VAC is equivalent to 248VDC.. (VDC = VAC / √2 ). 😵💫 😵💫 Seems even a 1W or 2W carbon film with a rating of 500V would not cover 360VDC for plate loads of some Phase inverters ?

Very late question. I have been fixing a KRK monitor and the speaker wires are held in place with conductive, corrosive goop, typically RTV3145 would do the trick, however the stuff is as expensive as poison. What do you recommend in place of it.

I hear you re. sourcing of components Brad, I spend ages on that and I always end up buying more than I need because I want the lower bulk price and I'm bound to need it again right? When I finally do the Swedish death cleanse ebay's going to be flooded with NOS. Looking forward to the JCM2000 board so thanks for the update on that.

Brad have you worked on a Fender Prosonic Amp? I have one. Do you have any info or tips on how to address their issues.
@Satchmoeddie13 күн бұрын
I have the Fuhrman conditioners plus my own isolated power supplie racks and they just paid for themselves. My mains power started acting strange, with brownouts causing breakers to trip, fuses to blow and computers to crash. Every rump humping electric car owner came back from the holiday and they all plugged in all of their electric cars all at the same time. Instead of 120/240 volts I was getting closer to 100/200. At 5:00 AM some douchebag from the public utility was banging on my door wanting to load test their distribution at my meter. I will have to take my FLIR & my good Agilent handheld around and check all my breakers & disconnects for heat & any voltage drop. My furnace & air conditioner was a casualty to this event. Only $17,000 in damage. Maybe I can replace all of the motors, controllers, solenoids, sensors & valves for around $5000 or so.

How do you clean the old solder off the brass plates in vintage Fender amps?
@thatampguy13 күн бұрын
You need a high wattage iron with a chisel tip. You can use solder wick once it’s sufficiently heated.
@AdmiralQuality13 күн бұрын
Q: How can you make a living at this and earn enough to have a shop, $1600 solder-suckers, and other stuff that I can only dream of when everything's extra expensive in Aus and you appear to live a thousand miles from nowhere? Is there really a local music scene full of well off, gigging, recording, professional musicians there? Or are you one of the only techs and you service the entire country and just ship the amps back and forth? I live in Toronto, Canada, and can't imagine how I'd drum up all that work, reputation or not. (In my case it's "not". ;)
