Dan Kelly was 28 years old when he called the second half of that Grey Cup game.

Bud Grant doing the color and expressing admiration for Lions quarterback Joe Kapp, a hint at things to come!
@jppicur4 ай бұрын
Joe Kapp was a great quarterback in both leagues. He was originally signed in Canada by the Calgary Stampeders in 1959. Talented as he was, in 1961 the Stamps considered his gimpy knee and decided to go with Eagle Day. Mind you, the Stampeders got four players from BC in return for Kapp! In 1967, in one of the few player "trades" between the CFL and NFL, Kapp went to Minnesota; the Lions got Canadian receiver Jim Young. The transaction was more complicated than that -- Young came from Toronto while BC sent Dick Fouts and Bill Symons to the Argos. Kapp was then waived through the CFL. Young would spend his Hall of Fame career with the Lions. Bad knee or not, Kapp would lead the Vikings to their first playoff appearance and first Super Bowl appearance. In 1970, he joined the (then) Boston Patriots in mid-season. Things did not go well and when the newly-renamed New England Patriots signed Jim Plunkett for the 1971 season, Kapp's career was over. Joe Kapp is the only player to quarterback in the Rose Bowl, Grey Cup and Super Bowl.

be sure to check out the Stamps games I have that are coaches' films from 1959-60 when Joe Kapp was here. The couple of years before Joe died I sent the links to these to his son JJ so Joe could watch them. I got a signed autobiography from Joe!

grass field, outdoors, sleet conditions, temp -5C, colder with wind chill, icy hard turf. back in the days when we had real men. Miss Grey Cup was Susan Browne.

Bud Grant is the man! Still going at 95. He would of made a great color guy for the NFL after he retired.

Dan Kelly was a great announcer for Hockey. Normally worked on CBS here in the states. Called NFL games for them too in the early 70s

Wish someone would find one of Dan Kelly's NFL on CBS or St. Louis football Cardinals broadcasts.

For some reason, the Lions changed into their pre-1964 jerseys at halftime. It's odd to see Angelo Mosca wearing #64 instead of #68, and to see Bill Walker when he's not doing a Timex commercial.

The equipment manager for BC was Bob Ackels who would later be their GM. Because of the muddy feild they brought 2 sets of jerseys.
