Gotta tell you all: growing up in Boston, the local band scene there in the late 70's to the mid 80's was UNTOUCHABLE! So many seriously incredible bands at the time! This takes me right back to the SPIT and MAN RAY dancefloor!

Loved this band. Saw them, Til Tuesday, New Man, Jon Butcher Axis, The Dark and Electric Toys numerous times, just to name a few bands I followed. Seems there was someone good playing every weekend at The Rat, Paradise, Bunratty's and the Channel amongst others. Amazing local music scene. Man Ray's -- what a club.

LIR 4EVER!
@richardmcinerney4302 жыл бұрын
Yup, WLIR turned us on to it. Unfortunately, First Wave SiriusXM never plays it. Uhh, Larry The Duck? He was there yet he never plays it, or The Bongo’s or anything obscure. He mail’s it in ! Such a pity. At least Richard Blade will experiment.

New Music First. Every week a half a dozen new songs for years. LIR was that good. This song was a favorite of mine in 84. Should have been a Screamer, IMO
@nicodio2709 Жыл бұрын
AMEN!!! I grew up with the First Wave British bands/Woodstock bands; however, by the late 70s I wanted something different. Plus, I graduated university, finally had some cash and the NYC club scene (non-disco) was raging big time. Danceteria and Hurrah's leading the way showcasing the Second Wave bands and having great DJ's. Special shout out to Ed Bahlman of 99 Records at 99 MacDougal Street in Greenwich Village who always played me the newest imports and I decided to buy or not. I still have every 7"/12" import I bought from him. Ed got these records even before the radio stations. Where I first heard: The Cure, Siouxsie, Bauhaus, Teardrop Explodes, Killing Joke, APB, Way of the West, Nina Hagen, Elvis Costello, The Clash, The Jam etc. He produced the Bush Tetras, Liquid Liquid and ESG. NYC radio had several college stations playing the new music WSIA and WNYU two of the best, plus WPIX with their shortlived PIX Penthouse Party on the weekends was awesome. The best of course was WLIR, later renamed WDRE; ya had to have been there!!!

I still find many connections with the November Group. Everyone who was around in Boston back then remembers them. My moms friend gave me 2 E.P.s of theirs. My friend Michael works with a former member who became some sort of producer. They are fabulous.

The Channel was so hilarious. Capacity was what, 2000? And it was in the middle of nowhere. You were never going to get anyone out to fucking Southie in those days for a gig on a weeknight. I don't know how many times I played shows in that cavern of a club where the audience was the band's girlfriends/boyfriends and the other bands. And they had like 10 acres of parking. That was the great thing. When they had big touring bands playing you could always park.
