I have only read Tress of the Emarald Sea when it comes to Sanderson. It has the vibes of a Side quest made so he can try and find the voice for Hoid. The book definitely got me interest in to reading further to find out who this Hoid even with the lack luster humor.
@TheBookThing5 күн бұрын
@@nathanielvalla6142 Hoid is the character that hops between worlds and shows up in all the Cosmere books. Kind of a high fantasy Silent Bob.

I think the reason I enjoyed Part I of Red Rising so much is that I haven't read any of the other books you mentioned, I'm on Part III now and it really is a good book. I don't think I have enough brain cells for House of Leaves 😂
@TheBookThing5 күн бұрын
@@DisquietandDragons The Hunger Games books (particularly 1 and 2) are actually really good and worth a punt. They probably share a common ancestor with Red Rising but are very different beasts. Funnily enough I reckon House of Leaves is up your street, I think you’d like the style and the tone even if it is a challenge.
@DisquietandDragons5 күн бұрын
@TheBookThing I do have The Hunger Games books, it's the same old excuse of not getting to them yet. I'm equally intrigued and intimidated by House of Leaves, if you think it could be my kind of thing I may bump it up the wishlist a bit. I'll have to devote my attention to it, no doing my usual trick of reading 10 other books alongside it.
@TheBookThing5 күн бұрын
@ that was pretty much how I approached it this month. I cleared my calendar and decided that if I had any time left I’d read a few Discworlds, but the month was all about House of Leaves, anything else was a bonus. It didn’t take anywhere near as long as I thought, and once you got your head around how it was written then it was one of those books I was itching to get back to.
@DisquietandDragons5 күн бұрын
@TheBookThing it's payday on Friday so I may buy myself an early Christmas present. I'm guessing with the way it's written (upside down text, blank pages, I'm thinking of the right book?) I'm assuming physical book is the way to go rather than ebook.
@TheBookThing5 күн бұрын
@ I don’t even think you can get an ebook. Yeah the physical book is very much part of the experience. It might seem faffy, but the different formatting does make sense when you’re in it.

Sounds like a great reading month! And that’s a very strong run of Discworld books (though I can’t comment on the Last Hero, not having read it yet).
@TheBookThing5 күн бұрын
Wasn’t bad in the end, I planned nothing other than House of Leaves and to pick up some Discworlds if I had any time left over. I think you’ll enjoy Last Hero, it’s kinda Pratchett revisiting and saying goodbye to the first two Discworld books

I gave up after Oathbringer because whilst I enjoy Sanderson I don't love him, and his books are just soo long I can't get in the mood for them. Night Watch might be my favourite Pratchett, I think it's the only one I've ever got in hardback. I always avoided Red Rising because I've not much enjoyed other SF YA hit series, I quite like reading about mining though so I might check it out now.
