Annihilation keeps popping up in different ways in my life lately. I think it's a sign! Rosemary's Baby is one of my favorite books. The movie is great, too, although director Roman Polanski is a disgusting human. Nestlings is one of my favorite books of the year, and I really enjoyed the live show discussion. I agree that the writing style in Annihilation is hard to adjust too. I felt that it made the book difficult to follow at times. That said, it is still a good book and I am glad that I read it.

Oh, MAN. I read all three in the Southern Reach trilogy...and loved all of them...but I STILL couldn't give anyone a coherent synopsis of any of it. So well done for that! And you have totally sold me on the Alice Feeney book...! I've been listening to lots of audiobooks this year and I am finding that thrillers and mysteries are the easiest things for me to get into, in a listening format (for some reason I cannot listen to horror, I have to read it in print, weird!) but anyway, you've convinced me to read this older Alice Feeney one next. I did just listen to her Good Bad Girl and that one was pretty great. And Lisa Jewell! OMG. I have yet to find a bad one from her. I think my favorite so far is The Night She Disappeared (the main character was a mystery author!) but None of this is True was wild, and I loved it.

I really struggled to talk about Annihilation 😂 Glad to hear you loved all three. I’ll have to continue on. I love that you are starting to get into audiobooks! Sometimes I lie was a good one for that. I haven’t read When She Disappeared yet. I had no idea it featured an author. That’s one of my favorite tropes!

Annihilation feels like you start on page 290 of a much larger book and honestly I hated it so much. Because you have no idea what is going on and also it was super freaking boring. I hated it so much that I will never read another Jeff Vandemeer book again. Loved The Whisper Network. I related to it so much, even being a SAHM at the time I read the book.

No you don't! Although it's fun if you do. I actually read half of Nestlings, read Rosemary's Baby, and then finished off Nestlings. But you absolutely can read it on its own.
