Hi, I just did question 3 before watching you do it and I instead used the Pythagorean theorem - a2+b2=c2, which got me the square root of 80. I then compared the two smaller similar triangles by plugging in the square root of 80/8 = bc/the square root of 80. I then solved and got BC = 10. I haven't learned trig yet so this was my approach. I love the content!

I HOPE YOU READ MY COMMENT: "I really appreciate the hardwork you put in your videos which are truly helpful for us. I think math is a subject that one can only understand if it is taught well and SAT math can also easily be conquered if one is persistent. I JUST DISCOVERED YOUR KZbin CHANNEL AND ITS TRULY THE BEST MATH LEARNING PLATFORM I HAVE FOUND. I am looking for ways to improve my SAT scores and I really wanted to sign up for your course but I am afraid I cant afford that. Anyways I've got your channel and am self studying. I hope I will be able to achieve my dream score" Thankyou💜

Thank you! Got 700 in Math, do plan to retake the exam at the end of this month, it seems like the only questions I got wrong were in geometry, which I did work on heavily, but also do try to cover other types of questions just in case

On the 3rd question (special triangles), since the whole triangle itself is a special right triangle and it is given that 12 is a side of it which equals to x in this case and AC =2x since it's the hypotenuse of the triangle. Can't we just (2×12)-8= BC which equals to 16? How come it doesn't work? Could you explain, please?

Hey @JohnSAT , could we also compare triangles ABD and DBC? We could set the proportionality of the similar triangles accordingly and then solve it right? Or is it not a way to do this problem. I mean I knew the concepts right away, it has to do with triangle similarity but can we possibly solve it without trig concepts.

yes trig was hella unnessary got me confused lol
@shivaprasadmallikarjunaiah3751
@shivaprasadmallikarjunaiah3751 Жыл бұрын
Yes, I agree you can solve it by using the proportionality of the similar triangles. That's how I got to the solution. It probably takes an additional step compared to John's. BC/BD = BD/AB = (middle side / short side, if that makes it easier to get the sides right if it gets confusing), which means you need to find BD first and then solve for BC.
@shivaprasadmallikarjunaiah3751

@@neelbhansali1395 I guess the method one uses depends on how their brain is wired. Thinking opp/hyp seems less confusing about which side is which. but trig didn't even occur to my mind.

Hey there, my ans for the first question is a^5/2 cuz i first multipled the 2/8 and 7/2 and simplified the ans to 7/4 to be able to add to 3/4, is it wrong?
@willieow3298
@willieow3298 Жыл бұрын
well, when it's like this:(a^5/2)2/8, you MULTIPLY 5/2and2/8. BUT if it's a^2/8 x a^5/2, then you + them together. ()= multiply, and x= +. hope this helps.

Hey john do you support the idea of using the built in desmos calc in the sat?
@JohnSAT

I'm against it except for only a few apps from the calculator (like the Polynomial root-finder). Using concepts will be faster for 98% of the SAT. It's ideal to minimize calculator usage.

So the vertex form of writing a parabolic function is a(x-h)^2 + k, where (h, k) is the vertex of the parabola. The graph makes it clear that the vertex is (2,3). And in the function -a(x-b)^2 + c, (b, c) is the vertex as it is written in the vertex form. So b = 2 and c = 3. The question’s very simple if you know the vertex form of a parabolic function…
