"Sick" not the same thing as "pain." He would still feel the effects of a stuffy nose, for example (difficulty breathing through the nose). But the defect you mention is very real: wouldn't be able to feel a broken bone in your foot so you keep walking on it, making it worse, and other things like that. There was a good episode of House where a patient had this condition which meant that (spoiler alert) she couldn't feel the tapeworm growing inside her.
