Great reaction. I think the sequence with Pei Mei was Quentin Tarrentino’s bow to the Hong Kong martial arts films of the 70’s and 80’s - the gestures of Pei Mei, the exaggerated sound effects, etc.

Just that sequence? Not the whole movie?? 😂 But yeah that would be the peak moments. The actor who plays Pei Mei here was a prolific actor in the genre , and had been in some films featuring the character Bak Mei who inspired Tarantino/is Pei Mei in an earlier era.

The sound effect is from the 60s TV series Ironside. Bill's take on Superman is the take of a villain. It's how someone like Lex Luthor would see him. The reality is that Superman and Clark Kent are one and the same. When he wears the costume, he's the real Clark. It's the "mild-mannered reporter" that's the disguise, not as a critique on humanity, but a way to recede into the background. While he was born Kal-el and owes his abilities to his Kryptonian origins, he was raised by Martha and Johnathan Kent and owes much of who he is to them. It's the difference between what someone is, and who someone is. Clark Kent is his true self, the last son of Krypton, and Earth's finest son.

i grew up near the famous -and massive- Chicago railyards; we'd walk through them, and the guys working the caboose would give us taconite pellets (basically iron ore) and other cool stuff. But, they always carried double-barrel shotguns that were loaded with shells filled with peppercorns and rock salt because there were always people trying to burglarize the cargo the trains were carrying. I knew some guys in high school who had gotten shot by them, and they said the rock salt would penetrate your skin just enough so you'd feel the salt stinging in the wound which they described as nearly unbearable. They said you'd have to dig the peppercorns out of skin - and all the little shards of them too!

Something to note about the ending fight, the way Bill describes the Ideal fight is how it was supposed to go, the reason why the fight between them is so short is because Uma Thurman suffered an accident on set. In the opening South America shot when shes driving down the road the location consultant didn't take into note how bumpy and sandy the road was, Uma accidentally jumped the road and ran into a tree almost paralyzing her. Thankfully she only suffered minor injuries and they had to post pone her final shots with Bill at the Hacienda. The final fight in the chairs was to make it easier on Uma Thurman who was still having trouble performing the original choreography for the final fight so it had to be redone with her injuries in mind as she was still recovering.

Pai Mei is played by Martial Arts Legend Gordon Liu. He also played the leader of the Crazy 88's, General Johnny Mo (Bald Head and Kato Mask). Another Actor who played 2 roles was Michael Parks who played the Texas Ranger with all the sunglasses in his Patrol Car in Part 1 and the Pimp Estaban in Part 2. When Beatrix tried to hit Pai Mei with a rock he threatened to chop off her arm. He lets her keep her arm but says that it belongs to him now. So during the fight between Beatrix and Elle, Pai Mei's arm snatched Elle's eye.

The sound effect is a sample of a 60’s detective series theme call “Ironsides” starring Raymond Burr. Part 1 is a homage to Kung Fu movies, part 2 is an homage to westerns, particularly spaghetti westerns like The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.

What kicks things off here is that the exact thing Beatrix was worried about is what happened - Bill claimed her daughter for himself and tried to erase her from the picture. He meant it when he said she was his favorite person, but he wasn't going to defy his own nature when she took off without explanation.

The razor from her boot always bugged me a bit because she only used it to cut her hands free. She could've cut a nice square in the box deep enough to only have to punch once. From the web: "Who is Pai Mei based on? Bak Mei has been fictionalized in Hong Kong martial arts films such as Executioners from Shaolin (1977), Abbot of Shaolin (1979), and Clan of the White Lotus (1980). Bak Mei as a fictional character is better known in the West as Pai Mei, played by Gordon Liu in the Hollywood action film Kill Bill, Vol. 2 (2004)."

44:40 In this final scene I think Bill is a bit inebriated. I also think this was intentional. Bill is also a student of Pei Mei and is probably as deadly as Beatrix. Bill feels bad about what he did to her. That is why he explained what he did to BB. He wanted his daughter to understand why he will no longer be around. So Bill is handicapping himself so Beatrix has a better chance of getting her revenge.

The "Boss Fights" got more personal as the 2 part movie moved forward. Budd gave us foreshadowing when he said to Beatrix "Here's for breaking my brother's heart." He didn't know that Beatrix would end up breaking his brother's heart for real. Elle is angry that a loser like Budd got to take out a warrior like Beatrix. She used a black mamba to kill him. Since Black Mamba is Beatrix's code name, it is symbolic that black mamba killed Budd. Elle was Bill's current love interest, but she knew that Bill had still loved Beatrix more. This fight was very personal. Beatrix lets Elle know that she isn't even worth the honor of death at the hands of a warrior. Perhaps the black mamba snake in the camper will do the honors? Elle's code name was California Mountain Snake. This snake is not venomous. Ironically, poison and venom are the tools Elle liked to use. She tried to poison comatose Beatrix when Bill's phone call stopped her. She used the black mamba to kill Budd. She poisoned Pai Mei's food to kill him. Also ironically, both the black mamba & California mountain snake are not vipers even though both code names belonged to The Deadly Viper Assassination Squad. This shows us that both Beatrix and Elle had something in common. They were both Bill's lovers.

I've always thought that much of what happened to Beatrix was her own doing. Bill made a great point. There are consequences for doing what she did. Bill and her were in a relationship, of sorts. They were sexually active. Probably weren't using protection. Her getting pregnant shouldn't have been a huge surprise. Certainly not enough for her to overreact the way she did. So what does she do? She gives a big F you to Bill, and tries to disappear. She knowingly does this to arguably one of the most dangerous men on the planet. And of course, someone like Bill, with his knowledge and resources, he would figure out what happened. So, Bill shows up, and what does he find? He sees her marrying another guy, AND she's pregnant!! And she has the gall to act surprised that this vicious killer of a man would go ballistic on her???? Not to mention, by all appearances, Beatrix's fears were unfounded, because Bill seemed to have been raising their daughter as well as any father could.
