Great video ! Nice to see the v 12 opened up in the front like that The R to LHD conversion is going to be a monumental task, I'm looking forward to it.

Thanks Adam really appreciate this video I've learned something today knowing the oil cooler is hiding a part of the radiator were all the debris is. I will be most definitely doing a rad removal now. 👍

Adam be sure to check the overflow tank behind driver side fender. I did the same overhaul on my '89 XJS and found the metal line to the overflow tank was blocked. Likely due to bars leak treatment before I owned the car.

Wow, that was one really bad sounding water pump. I was surprised by the amount of dirt...definitely something to keep an eye on. Looked like the rad support at the bottom was in good condition. Big plus there. Good luck with the steering which over. That will be a massive project.

Good progress! It also reminds me that I need to send for rebuild the alternator on my XJ40. Charges well, but the bearings are going bad. I also have a new water pump ready to install.

Just one more thing what air con gas will you be using when charging the system back up. Have you ever used R134a. Thanks in advance.
@LivingWithAClassic

I have only used R134a since R12 is illegal to use here.

I see your tools appear to be 1/2 inch you may wish to change over to 3/8 as there are more items available for 3/8 and of course they are cheaper than 1/2 "also as this is going to be your business it will be tax deductible :) Also there is a good range of 3/8 battery powered tools that will speed up your work.
@LivingWithAClassic
@LivingWithAClassic Жыл бұрын
I do have everything on 3/8 too but I didn’t feel like getting more tools dirty. The front of this engine was really dirty and I was being lazy not want to clean more tools. Someday I may get some battery operated stuff

@@LivingWithAClassic I don't have a business like you but I do fix cars for people and worked as a mechanic in a Jaguar restoration shop back in the UK, power tools can save so much time especially if removing 300 oil pan bolts :)

Hi Adam, Is a water pump that has sat for about 19 years likely to cause issues when it is used again even if it is not leaking or "noisy to the spin", when removed do you think ? Easily serviced ? Or just replace ? Thanks for videos.

You really like giving yourself a challenge don't you Adam? SWapping the engine in the S type on your own and now doing a right hand drive conversion. Yikes.

I have a 1990 Jaguar XJS V12 base coupe . In replacing water pump the pump is stuck to the engine . All bolts are removed . The pump is really stuck on . Is there a easy or better way to get this pump loose from the engine block ?

Have you removed the pulley for the fan that covers half the pump?
@WilliamKennedy-e5j

Adam, you mentioned in the first video that you thought the engine has never been apart. How could you tell?
@LivingWithAClassic
@LivingWithAClassic Жыл бұрын
Some of the gaskets I found are the ones that were only used until the mid 80’s. This is a 1983 and that’s why I think it hasn’t been apart

If you have the fan off anyway, why not replace it with an electric one? In a temperate climate, a daily driver with a direct-drive fan is overcooled 90% of the time, which makes a difference to warm-up time and fuel consumption.,
