Now I’ve found you that’s 4 metal boats I am following, only advice I can offer is that you make all areas of the boat, especially below the water line accessible as regular inspection is required as steel boats rust out from the inside
@SYCarla9 ай бұрын
Thank you very much for following and for your reply 😊 yes you are quite right. It is definitely something that we will have to keep in mind. One of our goals is to have as many openings in the interior as possible both for this reason and for storage. 😊

would add non stop circulation fans with dedicated solar cells. Circulation is the enemy of damp and condensation.

That sounds like a great idea thanks for the tip 😊👍

I’m so glad to have found your channel and that you are rescuing that beautiful boat. For future reference, I have found that Milwaukee brand reciprocating saw blades called the Torch last a long time and are able to cut very straight as they are a full 1 inch wide and follow a line very well. Best of luck to you and Heidi.

Thank you very much we are glad you like it 😊 That sounds like a very good tip. I will definitely se if I can get some of those blades 👍

More pushing and puling rather than bashing it with hammer 😂but it has got the job done keep it up a mig welder has less heat ense less distortion your doing fine 😊
@SYCarla9 ай бұрын
Yes I might have gotten a little carried away with the hammer 😅😂 but yes you are right. I actually have got a small Mig welder and I think I’ll use I for the overhead welds from now on. The rest i am still going to do with the stick just because I have bought all the electrodes already 😊

Nice channel. Interesting to see how you tackle things. I recomment to cover you windows when using an angle grinder. Once sparks are flying onto them they burn into the glass and the aluminium and damage your windows forever. Success with the continuation of your project. Best regards, Felix from Holland.
@SYCarla9 ай бұрын
Hi Felix Thank you very much. I mostly make it up as I go along 😅 yes you are right I should have covered up all the windows. It would suck to have to change them because of laziness. I will do that the next time before I start grinding 😊👍

Perhaps, I can not tell from here, there was an intentional crown to the deck to help shed water? Just an armchair observation well after the fact.
@SYCarla9 ай бұрын
You are absolutely right. There is an intentionally crown to the deck. The deck beam I got rolled to match the crown just wasn’t rolled enough. But it is now so I can start installing it. Thank you for your reply 😊👍

Maybe try a plasma torch instead of recip saw,great for thin sheet metal.
@SYCarla9 ай бұрын
Yes I did consider a plasma torch. But then I would get in trouble with the epoxy and I would have to by an air compressor to supply the torch. The saw felt like a quicker way to get started cutting. But a plasma torch is definitely on my wish list😊👍

It would be nice to only have to weld on the topside. But yes you are right I will weld on both sides for optimal strength 👍

If you V groove that plate out enough from the top then just weld it from the top. We call them deck supports.
@SYCarla8 ай бұрын
That is exactly what we will try to do going forward to save us the extra work of welding it twice. Thanks for your comment 😊

Get a plate tamper and run around on the deck with it
@SYCarlaАй бұрын
That might actually work… The vibrations might get it loose. Though I’m not sure the neighbours would be very happy with me if I did that 😅 But we actually found a good way to do it. As you can see in the later videos we use a weed burner from the underside and it comes right off. Thank you very much for your reply and thanks for watching 😊👍

get yourself some steel boat building books,,, Gilbert Klingel,,, Thomas Colvin,, Ian Nicholson, a hydraulic 10 ton bottle jack, scrap lengths of 50mm RHS and angle iron, don't remove any plating or structural members without first bracing it in original position, doing a swell job, best of luck
@SYCarla9 ай бұрын
Thank you very much for the comment and the references😊👍 I’ll se what I can find. And yes maybe I should have braced it off before cutting but hopefully I can get it back to the original position with the help of the winch or a jack and then the old deck beam for reference.
