Scarecrow is the Avantasia "gateway" song that has gotten myself and man many others into the phenomenal musical project by Tobias Sammet. Seen them live a few years back in Chicago and it was one of the best concerts I've ever been to in my 53 years which is saying a lot. They played like this for 3 straight hours.

Always been impressed by the stamina of these guys as that was song 2 in the setlist and they kept the high energy going all the way. Rare these days to get long songs like this

I love those two powerhouses. Jorn is also featured on the 01011001 album by Ayreon (sadly he was not present at the live show) and he has done 2 albums with Russel Allen from Symphony X. Next up maybe the official lyric video for The Raven Child, feat. Tobias, Jorn and Hansi Kürsch? I love the album A Paranormal Evening with the Moonflower Society. In my opinion it's a good one for a song by song reaction.

20:40 Avantasia does concept albums across multiple albums. The Metal Opera 1& 2 are the first 2 albums. The Scarecrow story spans the next 3 albums known as The Wicked Trilogy: The Scarecrow, The Wicked Symphony, & Angel of Babylon. The next 2 albums cover the Aaron Blackwell story: The Mystery of Time & Ghostlights. The final two albums: Moonglow & A Paranormal Evening With the Moonflower Society are a Tim Burton style tale of a misfit nocturnal creature that doesn't really fit in with the rest of society.

Tobias started the project in 1999, several core members and ,like Ayreon, use guest singers and musicians. 9 albums to date, this is the 2008 3rd album's title track. Studio version feat Jorn Lande and Helloween's Michael Kiske on vocals. A former core member, who recorded on this album, is drummer Eric Singer. A song I mentioned to you before , is the 8th album title track "Moonglow", which features Candance Knight (a.k.a. Mrs Ritchie Blackmore). The 9th album had 2 songs with a woman you may have heard of, lol, Floor Jansen. (Misplaced Among the Angels and Kill the Pain Away)

You do know the player with the Explorer, Bill. You're just not used to see his face. That's famed producer Sascha Paeth, of Angra, Kamelot, Epica, Seven Spires and almost every other melodic metal band worth naming. 😉😉 He's the only other formal member of Avantasia besides Toby. The other guitarist is Oliver Hartmann. Wait until you hear him sing. He's about as good as Toby and Jorn, in a more bluesy hard rock style. 🎸🎙 Avantasia is a treasure. 💖💖

@@BemusingBill That's Awesome! Sascha has another project, called Sascha Paeths's Masters of Ceremony. Adrienne Cowan on vocals and the same drummer as Avantasia.

I'm very glad that you liked it! Oliver Hartmann, one of the guitarists here, also sings on some of Avantasia tracks and in the band At Vance, really cool band. If you'd like to go with a story you can start with the first album The Metal Opera. There are some amazing songs on it. Or if you'd like something slightly newer I recommend songs like Raven Child, Book of Shallows, Moonglow or Misplaced Among the Angels.
