I love that Scanlan doesn't mind Percy joining in but he has to ask first. Because Henry Crabgrass, the anti-grabass crabgrass, days: "Consent please."

The Sandal is The Last Sandal of Gygax -- the last shoe he made before he said, "Fuck it!" and D&D became his day job. If Season 1 stresses you out, you're in trouble for Season 2.

The color of the dragon actually matters! Some types of dragons are often more powerful and they behave/fight in different ways too! Age also is a big factor for dragons, the one in episode 2 is relatively young compared to what other dragons can reach.

Sometimes the path through a fandom isn't linear :) Looking forward to watching you enjoy the whole journey! "I think they're all sadists" Lol, what do you mean? It's totally normal to watch hundreds of 4+ hour long episodes! 🤣 (gentle sarcasm, with fondness) I've watched them all, and CR brings me life, but totally understand feeing like the episodes are a LOT, because they are! There are some amazing recaps and clip videos that people have made if you ever want to see some great in-game moments without the massive time commitment. I will say though, the podcast is, imo, the worst way to experience the series. Part of the joy is watching the shenannigans at the table between these nerdy friends, and seeing their faces as they react to eachother and the story. They are all each others' biggest fans, and it's just such a delight to watch. I couldn't solely listen to it either, seeing the video is half of the joy for me. (One day I will learn to post an entire message without editing, but today is not that day. Apologies.) Have you seen any of the "The Legend of the [music/voices/cast/etc] of the Legend of Vox Machina" videos? (yes those are the titles, because these people are my favourite dorks :p) CR released a series of short behind the scenes/making-of videos before S1 dropped, and they're pretty great. You can see the love and enthusiasm from everyone working on the show. There is no favourite, it's impossible. Final edit, just finished the video, you repeated the "I think they might all be sadists" thing more seriously, and while I interpreted the first time as "lol they enjoy creating and making people watch 4 hour episodes" now I'm wondering if you actually think this about the CR cast? If so, that's... a weird take to have, based on watching hardly any of the show, you said? But if it's just a tone failure then ignore me :) It's sometimes hard to tell

hah...there are simply some creators that I worry when I start their books/shows/etc because they aren't afraid to make people cry. (as someone who regularly kills off core casts in my own books, I'm mostly afraid of encountering myself okay I actually think that's it, that's all it is!)

As others have already said the colour of a dragon matters. Red dragons breathe fire and are immune to fire attacks, white dragons have an icy blast and are immune to cold, blue dragons breathe lightning and are immune to electricity. So when Keyleth attacked the dragon with a Call Lightning spell it did nothing to it “Did I just make things worse?”.

Pike's hair is white due to trauma... coming from the comics, you might have noticed it's black in them. Pike's goddess, the Everlight, is Sarenrae from the game Pathfinder, and my first (re)entry into playing the game in 2014 was playing a cleric of Sarenrae, so I immediately gravitated towards Pike when we started watching the original stream.

Pike's hair is white because of her devotion to the Everlight; it's sun-bleached. Percy is the one with Marie Antoinette syndrome.

@@DarcOne13 I'd be curious to know what your source is for "hair is white because of devotion to the Everlight" -- genuinely! I've never heard that, but it's an interesting take for the LoVM show, whether sourced or headcanon. In the streamed campaign, Pike's hair is indeed also white due to trauma. POTENTIAL MINOR SPOILERS depending, but before the streamed game, Pike died and was resurrected. Upon resurrection, her hair changed from black to white. There has been no indication yet that this (or something similar) is true for LoVM, though I assume many people take something like it to be the case.

The color of the Dragon Matters in that their breath weapon is different for each color in (D&D), and as others have mentioned general mannerisms and levels of intelligence vary by color/type. Generally colored (Blue, Red, Black, Green, White, etc..) are evil, where Metallic dragons (Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze) are good. There are many more colors/types (Ferrous, Gem, Undead, etc..)in D&D lore but to long to get into. Also previously mentioned by others age of the dragon affects how powerful they are.

Great to see people that like the show even without a Critical Role background. I won't spoil anything, but will say that anything bad that happens to any characters is usually well deserved or reasoned, not just pain for pain's sake. (Well, maybe Percy's background, but that the player brought in on his own. 🙂)

Interesting. Watch enough reactions and you’ll continue to find unique situations. You’re a comics first fan. Haven’t seen that one before. Curious if you’ve read or are at least aware of the novel Kith and Kin. It delves into the backstory of Vex and Vax.

I can't wait for you to see the Mighty Nein show the cast are working on. Vox Machina was great. But I never cared for them like I did the Mighty Nein. Scanlan, percy, vax, vex, grog, pike, and keyleth are great and all... but nothing beats Nott the Brave, Mollymauk, Caduceus, Caleb, Jester, Fjord, Yasha, and Beauregard. Vox Machina walked so the Mighty Nein could run. It was their second campaign. Vox Machina was pretty hodgepodged together being the casts first game together and first character for most of them. So when they started The Mighty Nein everyone had learned from campaign 1 how to really play the game and imo their characters reflect that.

The color of the dragon actually matters quite a bit, not only do they have different elemental abilities (blue-lightning, white-ice, black-acid, green-poison, red-fire) but they also differ significantly in character, green and blue dragons are lawful evil and very intelligent and manipulative, black and white dragons are more primitive, closer to beasts and red dragons are intelligent but more solitary than blue and green (they also have a bit of a superiority complex)

The only problem is when the reactor talks over vital dialog that reveals plot points AND THEN spend several minutes ranting or making jokes about how something "doesn't make sense" because they didn't hear what was said that EXPLAINS the issue that they are griping over.

Sounds like not all of this is pertains to you, but to fill in some missing details... Also, the CR group are not Sadists! Weeelllll... only a little bit... sometimes. 🤣They are an unbelievably loving, funny, naughty, and an invested group of close friends who love to immerse themselves in their shared world and ongoing story. Hello! So... I confess, the following comment is a copy and paste of one I wrote quite a while back, have tweaked several times, and so now I fall back on it to give a Critical Role explanation. Yes, it's a bit longer than average, but... there's A LOT of stuff to cover, I summarized as best I could. Welcome to the world of Critters. Once upon a time, many years ago a talented voice actor was about to have a birthday, and to celebrate Matt Mercer, another well-established voice actor and talented GM (Game Master) offered to run a role-playing game for a group of friends... who also all happened to be voice actors. So, a group of nerdy ass voice actors sat around and played D & D. The group had so much fun they made it a regular thing, Felicia Day of 'Geek and Sundry' heard about this game and approached them with the idea of streaming it... and it became a hit in its field, eventually growing into its own company and channel known as Critical Role. Parting on good terms with their previous home, Felicia Day has a small role in the beginning of episode 2. Vox Machina was the group of characters they played in Campaign One, there has also been a Campaign Two, in which the cast plays a whole new group of adventurers. Both are set in the same world, but on different continents, and Campaign Two is set a few decades after the end of Campaign One. Each campaign ran for over a hundred episodes which are all over three hours long, and we are over 100 episodes into Campaign Three. They have also put out a bunch of other content, from talk shows to shorter games in other Role Playing worlds. They have played live shows to sold out theaters, become the number one channel on Twitch, have merch stores in multiple countries, have comics and actually published books of fan art (there are some talented as F*** Critters) they also started a nonprofit charity to... "Leave the World a Better Place." The whole cast would all tell you that they never expected any of this, that it has been a wild ride and they are just trying to hold on and be worthy of it. A few years ago they started looking into the possibility of an animation, but no one was buying, or at least not on their terms, so they went to the Critters to try and raise upwards of $700,000.00 over the course of 45 days in order to make a two-part special for themselves and their fans.... The Critters laughed, and smashed through not just the goal amount, but also ALL of their stretch goals within an hour. By day 45 they had raised nearly 11 and a half million dollars, added a bunch more stretch goals, and the two-part special became a season. Amazon took note and basically funded a second season (3rd season was green lit just before season 2 dropped) to get the streaming rights, but the show is created by Critical Role. Those Nerdy Ass Voice actors are the producers and have full creative control. Most of the people they hired, from writers to artists and composers are also fans who love and know the story and its world. It is one of the truest examples of a project of love I have ever seen. During the production of season one of the animation they put out a series of videos to keep their fans in the loop of how things were going. Interviewing the people behind the scenes and giving non spoiler info about the production. It's a good watch and will really help you understand the devotion and love that went into this project, as well as introduce the cast, the people who created these characters and this amazing story. Personally, how the lead composer got the job is one of my fav stories. Here is that play list. (P.S. Critters like me will watch you react to it.) kzbin.info/aero/PL1tiwbzkOjQwJdoNetaNJE1zZVOE7xi8u The latest big news is that Amazon has signed off on producing a season based on the Campaign Two group, known as The Mighty Nein! And no I did not misspell Nein. They have also reached a multi year agreement that Amazon gets the first look at any new shows OR movies Critical Role wants to produce. Many a fans ears perked up at the mention of possible movies given the popularity of a particular 4 episode and done Campaign, “Exandria Unlimited Calamity” It is a separate adventure set in the same world, but way, WAY, before Vox Machina's or The Mighty Nein's Time. The latest, latest news, Critical Role now has their own streaming service called Beacon. They in no way limited the access people had through the other streaming sites but do offer some exclusive content on Beacon. I signed up right away as it is a very reasonable cost. Critical Role gives me more joy in a month than my weekly treasured latte, so I figured they deserve direct support from me for about the same price once a month. Once again, welcome to this new world, hope you enjoy your visit and stay for a while... it's a devoted community with a lot of heart... and dicks... so many dicks... LoL. Let Chaos Reign!
