Not sure if it has been mentioned but in the Buccaneers - the small socket above control panel is for the alarm (you insert the fob.) The large side door is not for gas (that’s in the front locker) it is another storage space. You will notice that there is a control panel towards the floor as you walk in the door. This is for self-levelling the legs (no winding up and down and spending a stupid amount of time with a spirit level!) This is worth its wait in gold for us. :)

F.Y.I. I have just received my caravan back after a post sale 1 year warrantee damp repair. The caravan is a 2011. It has been of very good service, to honour their sales warranty ( Beechwood liesure Thirsk ). What was found on both sides of the caravan, was shrivelled sealant under the awning rails, obviously age related, that had shrunk and left gaps for the water to permeate. Interestingly enough, I got talking to another caravan owner in Castleton and he had the exact same problem on a previous caravan , that was also fixed, by replacing the sealant under the caravan awning rails both sides. My thinking is now, that if you have a caravan that is 10 years old or more, to get the awning rail sealant replaced at it's 10 year birthday, leakage or not. It is much more inexpensive, than repairing the damage after the water has ingressed. The damage would have cost me north of £2000, if it was not under warranty. The caravan was 11 months into a 12 month warranty approximately. The other caravan owner sold his caravan after 2 years post repair to his friend, who has had it for a further 4 years with no further problems. Also in my view a a solid metal body is much more preferable to a coach built vehicle for longevity but there are no solid body metal caravans are there ?
@HelenandDave7 ай бұрын
Hi Steve, am interesting read indeed. I think you’re possibly on to something with the resealing idea, certainly a preventative and also cheaper alternative to repairing the damp ingress. Not sure about all metal vans perhaps an Airstream? Thanks as always, Helen & Dave 👍

The cleaner is very knowledgable about the leisure vehicle industry. Someone should promote him! I really enjoyed listening to what he had to say. It is very good to hear that lead times have dropped to normal timeframes. All that has to happen now for me in Japan is the yen strengthening its value (it is currently at historical lows) and the situation in the Middle-East calming so that shipping can once again take the shortest and cheapest route through the Straits of Hormuz. Neither of which are likely to happen anytime soon. Consequently, prices are astronomically bloated here.

Thanks for the video, couple of questions: Why do all the vans have their jockey wheels raised? I was led to believe that the feet shouldn’t be used on their own without the jockey week down. That is from Facebook experts though so happy to told otherwise! The third van, the Alicante Grande has the toilet on the same side as the door. That means you’d be emptying the toilet etc from inside the awning. That’s quite unusual isn’t it? Not sure if like that. Surprisingly, we preferred the first van! Although I get your point about the second feeling more spacious. We’re waiting until post summer hols to decide whether to upgrade our Bailey Discovery D4-4 (the IKEA of caravans!) and this was really helpful thank you!
@HelenandDave6 ай бұрын
Hello Matt, thanks for watching. Do you know I hadn’t noticed the jockey wheels up but like you I think they should be down when pitched. The steadies are just that and the wheels should be bearing the weight. We wouldn’t want to empty the toilet cassette from the awning either, the fridge vents are also there so on hot days the awning can be like a greenhouse. Hope you find the right van for you and thanks again. Helen & Dave 👍

Interesting video, we unfortunately had a very bad experience with Greentrees when we bought our Avante 2 years ago. Late delivery, we arranged a pre inspection before picking only to find the caravan in no state to view. On the day of picking up, the pullout table fell off. As we went to drive away it was noticed that the ATC light was not on. On investigation it was realised that it had not been fitted completely despite the PDI check being ticked as present and functional. When we got home we discovered that the Powertouch motor mover had not been fitted correctly so it would not move the van up a slight slope. It had been fitted on the ramps and not with the van on the floor as it should have been. Powertouch knew what was wrong as soon as we told them. We had to take the van back for the sealant around the roof lights to be redone. Greentrees wanted us to sign a disclaimer saying that whilst the van was with them any damage remained our responsibility. We did not sign that. The sealant was not improved but we gave up!!!!

We went to a dealership not long ago and looked at a few twin axles.(we already own one) I have to say the build quality of the new ones was relatively poor. Eg cupboards not fitted properly, doors not closing etc. The exception was the Swifts. Our favourite was the Challenger 635 as we didn’t like the Elegance interior. Just need to add self levelling to match our own van. Of the ones shown in the vid I would go with one of the Buccaneers as they seem to offer relatively good value for money, though I don’t know how old they were.

@@HelenandDave I’m talking about the Swift Elegance you showed at the end, that doesnt have self levelling, it isnt standard on them, and you can see the winder sticking out the side. In the Buccaneer you showed first, the small black thing above the Alde panel is indeed for resetting the alarm or adding extra accessories to it.

I did the math. My family could save 1200 pounds per month living full time in a caravan, and also, within 6 to 9 months of living this way, we would end up almost completely debt free. Alternatively, we could just wait three years. I prefer to do it now but it seems the elephant in the room n the UK is that if you buy a caravan to live in, the culutural perception is you are a traveler and the laws are designed to prevent travelers from living equally legal lives, descrimination against travlers is formaly accepted based on ther history of behavior, so it's very hard to live in a caravan full time, no matter how luxurious and awesome it is. Am I wrong about this? Everywhere I have checked, there are camp sites but not Caravan resdence that cater to mobile, or travel trailers, or even truck campers. These seem to only be for people who own a home and have t n their yard and swear they aren't using t for anything other than occasional campng and even then they may have issues with the council. Boat living, on the other hand, seems to be accepted in the UK as a hgher class lifestyle. I wish none of this was the case, and hope someone can point me in the direction of affordable moble caravan resdence n the Bournemouth UK area.

Hi Neil, yeah, not everyone’s cup of tea but each to their own in terms of choice. We liked the Bailey layout and it was very comfortable but tbh they were all very nice. Thanks for watching. Helen & Dave 👍

I never quite understand why us brits insist on having a full oven in caravans and motor homes. it just takes up space and I bet most people very rarely use it.

Hi, thanks for watching and leaving a comment. We cook and eat outside as much as possible, so you’re right, we don’t use the oven much of the time but we do use it, in fact we made last nights meal in it. Thanks again, Helen & Dave

We use our full oven and grill all the time. We can’t be bothered with an awning so we haven’t bought the gas bbq for outside either. Reason? Need only look at the ‘spring’ and ‘summer’ we are having this year in the uk. Weather is an absolute lottery. On the rare occasions it isn’t raining we can cook inside and then have our meals outside on the folding table.

@@jw25782 we’re away now and have left the awning and sun canopy at home this time for exactly the same reasons 👍
