Hi from South Africa. Here there is wholesale theft from Police and Military gunsafes and around 10,000 a year go missing. These guns are sold directly to criminals on the street by Government officials yet there is a drive to disarm the legal gun owners. Recently a 6m shipping container of ammo went missing at a Harbour after it was shipped in. All inside jobs. cheers

The honest way is like this: They check serial with Manufacturer then Distributor then FFL then whoever bought it from FFL. The dishonest way is they look up whoever they want to bind up by name and go mess with them about whatever they found in their database.

Well awhile back there was a handgun which showed up at a crime scene in PA which was supposed to be destroyed at a ATF Disposal site in WV. They found that the security guard working there was “swiping” the fire arms from the place and sold them to people. Unknown how many but there is a article on the web talking about it.

I am a retired ICE Agent with a long career spanning over 21 years. I was also a certified firearms instructor for ICE as a secondary duty. I recently retired from ICE about five months ago and I have never heard of this $100 million in stolen ICE guns and ammo. As a matter of fact, ICE keeps a really tight grip on guns and ammo and there are multiple inspections and inventories conducted throughout each year, and it is mandatory for every Agent assigned a service weapon. I have heard of rare cases of Agents losing their service weapons and I can assure you that there are steep consequences for losing your firearm or any sensitive item assigned to you, but again, I have never heard of this $100 million worth of missing guns and ammo. I could see that being all agencies federal and states agencies combined across the nation, but not just ICE alone.

Has anyone else run the numbers on this one? $100,000,000 of stolen guns. Assuming they know because of serial numbers. At $500/gun thats 200,000 stolen guns. At $2500/gun figuring about right for a Colt AR on government contract, thats 40,000 guns. So, are these just not counted in the gun theft numbers? Otherwise thats the total number of guns stolen in a year, or just under a quarter of them/year. Hmmm.... Makes one wonder, just how accurate any of these numbers are? Also, Mark, do you know if this was just one agency (ICE) or all agencies. Because think about it, if it is only one agency, how many are really "missing"?

Sold a gun to a pawn shop in 97'. It was used in a homicide 2weeks later. Either the owner sold it out the back door, or he murdered someone in a drive thru in New Orleans. I had a receipt from the sale so I was covered. Still have the letter from the ATF.
