Now We’re Ranchin!

My name is Carson Sleep, I’m 23 years old and am a 6th generation rancher on the Sleep Ranch.
Our ranch is located in the Northern Black Hills on the South Dakota/ Wyoming border where my family settled and started ranching in 1883.
I work alongside my parents, Jeff and Jodi, our ranch hand, Jaques, and my wife, Damaris who also works as a nurse in town. We have friends and family who come along very frequently as well!
We run a cow/calf operation where we summer our cattle on the Black Hills National Forest and winter them in the foothills of the Black Hills. We also have a backgrounding feedlot, and grow alfalfa and grass hay.

Once I saw a bale roll away, through a fence, across the road and through a neighbors fence where it came to rest about 50 feet from his cows that viewed this as manna from heaven and promptly surrounded it🙂

The Big Horn mountains are my favorite place…Love being on the mountain when it rains..the echoing of the thunder….Such a cool place,literally a cool place….It sure feels good…getting away from the heat…Always seen moose close to Bear Lodge…also my favorite on the Big Horns…

@@sleepranch Trying, day by day. Really nice to see your videos when they post, reminds me so much of when I was young. I didn't have the support you do and I made all the mistakes, at least once. I would not change many of them because even if life is not perfect it still was fun. Remember to do nice surprises for Damaris, she may feel a bunch of hormones and knowing she means the world to you will help her through every thing. I realize you edit the video, but the looks and facial expressions are clear you are still in young love and I hope you are for a couple more decades. I was far from a perfect husband but every morning no matter what I gave the ex a hug and told her I loved in front of the kids before I hugged them and told them I loved them. For awhile my oldest got up at 4:30 to have breakfast with me and then went back to bed with her mom she was 2-3 years old. She still talks about watching me drive off in the dark after breakfast before going back to bed. Your nephews will remember something about your time together that you will not remember.

Wow, you sure fit in a lot of scenes into this video. Nice haying footage and Jacque trying to get that Coyote. Glad your whole family was able to get together in such a peaceful location to enjoy nature and spend time together. It is great that you were able to get that Moose up close eating. Hopefully Poncho will learn his lesson to stay away from Porcupines. That had to hurt going right into his nose.

Just found this channel and subscribed. I gave up the Cowboy trade when I was 30 or about 1985. I'm in Idaho. I may still have family in the Spearfish to Hot Spring area. One of the great great Aunts married Jack Langrishe in Deadwood around the same time they shutdown his opera house in the Bella Union hotel to try Jack McCall for killing Wild Bill Hickock. I've been meaning to get to the area for a long time. My Mom tells me we still have family there.

What a great video, have you seen Soone Farm video, their John Deere Baler has attachment that holds 2 bales. They demo it to try if would work if go back in videos, slides together so can go through pasture gates and can drop bales in line across field. So, saves time loading/gathering bales, then you have more time to go enjoy & Video! your beautiful scenery !!!

Oh I remember greasing all the machinery. That was the only thing that got grease. I started when I was ten years old. We all had to contribute to the farm. My father only had me. So the three of did the farm. My dad and grandfather taught me shoot the oldest the young well not leave the leader. The leader will leave the one shot behind. Glad you got to go on a camping trip. Nice little Brookies and lots of them. I know a spot near there where my brother and I worked our butts off and caught a bunch of 14 - 16 inch Cutthroat and some really nice Brookies. Beautiful country. And some really nice trout in secret places. I enjoy your videos.
