The old man in the fiddle class is Proinsias Ó Maonaigh, from Gaoth Dobhair, he's the father of Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, the well-known fiddler and singer of Altan :-)

"Is maith liom a dhul ag siúl sna sléibhte." Narrator: "I like to go HELL walking." 🤣 That particular part of the accent really sticks. I even use to say "melk" instead of "milk", but I stopped bc kids in my crappy part of America made fun of me for it. After that, I always could hear it whenever my mother would say it. I would always tell her: "it's MILK, not MELK." Proper pronunciation was important to me, you see. 🙄 Now I'd just say: "milk to feck! Tá sé bainne!" Let 'em shtick THAT in their pipe and shmoke it!

I think it might be the Scottish influence. They substitute short "e" for short "i" too. In America, particularly in the South and West, we have the opposite problem: "git" instead of "get" etc. It drives me crazy, especially in a play where the actors are trying to do RP or at least something mid-Atlantic, but they give themselves away with "forgit" and "rimimber." (remember) Ha! I'd rather hear a Donegal accent.
