On this day 30 years ago, Sungei Buloh opened its doors to the public as a Nature Park, before it was officially gazetted as a Nature Reserve and renamed Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve in 2002.
Situated along both the East Asian-Australasian Flyway and Central Asian Flyway, Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve is a recognised site of international importance for wintering shorebirds.
In this video, go behind-the-scenes with Shufen, Director/Conservation at Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve, and her team, to witness the process of bird ringing - from the setting up of mist nets to tagging of a Lesser Sand Plover (Charadrius mongolus). Watch on to find out what the team does, through the use of technology, to keep track of migratory birds and study their migration patterns!
